Check the gap. It's all in the Haynes.

It's a Punto, so many people treat them like white goods. Most survive, some drop or burn a valve which -- economically -- means a new engine.

A set of feeler guages, a new rocker cover gasket, a little gasket goo and -- if the clearance is out -- a new shim, will cost you much less.

Properly set up they're virtually silent and will stay that way for a long time (40k miles plus).

need a new rocker gasket anyway..weeping by coil packs..
only noticed it in the sun cos of having the windows down..

ALSO I've noticed I have a 'whine' from the gearbox for first 1 minute or so when driving..goes up and down with the speed..normal or worth investigating.....sounds like a really tight belt does but as i said soon goes away..

Coil pack leak may be the O ring on the coil pack holder thingy itself. Still, cheap to replace.

Road speed or engine speed?

Worth checking the gearbox oil level.
