The guy is half-way up his own arse. He was SPEEDING, he got away with it because of a clerical slip. I would have thought quiet relief was the appropriate reaction, instead the knuckle-grazing idiot rattles off streams of self-righteous indignation and PUBLISHES it on the frigging internet to great applause.
With that sort of attitude he'll get caught again soon enough and you can bet your bottom dollar we won't get to hear about it

If you read the letter he wrote correctly, he never refused to pay and gave them the opportunity of admitting the error and upholding the fine, or admit their error and let it go.
True, he was speeding. Letters like his wouldn't be written if the enforcement agencies didn't abuse the system every now and again. When they slip up like this, you can't expect someone not to jump on it and get a light hearted dig in
"Self-righteous indignation" as you put it, in this case, is a light hearted **** rip. No One is above having the **** ripped out of them every now and again
The Police, of course, could have quite easily upheld the fine.

I did read the letter correctly and never suggested he refused anything. All I meant was he WAS speeding and he got away with it because of a clerical error
My response would have been "phew, I'm not gonna get points and a $xxx dollar fine after all"
Instead he decides to rub their faces in it and let the world know he was speeding into the bargain. He was the one in the wrong. This letter seems to turn him into some sort friggin folk hero. People are emailing it to each other and passing it around. World's gone feckin' topsy turvy
I think the guys an arse and a few smarmy lines in a letter doesn't change that for me
