just a couple of questions, bit pointless but i've just wondered for a while:

does charging stuff like mp3 players through the USB port use more electric?

how come if i leave my mp3 plugged in, turn my laptop off, unplug it, even take the battery out and the mp3 player will still charge?

like i said, bit pointles but i've been wondering

see i took that as meaning u took the battery out the mp3 player, dont ask me why lol

Run a Test

Use your MP3 Player till it dies, try to turn it on without charging just to make sure the battery is fully discharged.

Then Unplug your Laptop, Remove the Battery from your Laptop and then attempt to charge the MP3 player as before.

When the MP3 player shows 'battery full' use it and see how long it runs for.

I think you will find it appears to charge only and is not actually charging.

Its haunted and needs an exorcism unless there is a logical explaination gatherable from a minute detail you maybe have missed out.

You sure you are removing the battery from the Laptop and not the Hard Drive? You sure the Laptop doesn't have two batteries?

Possibly due to internal chemical reactions in the battery?
Similar to when you use a torch 'till the battery is dead. Turn off the light & a few hours later it will work for a short while.
Those little MP3 players only use a miniscule amount of energy.
