Technical Urgent - Stuck fast sump plug!!!

Help!

I cannot budge the sump plug on my Marea, swinging on a socket and its not moved at all. I'm worried its going to round off the plug. Why oh why have they used such a small hex? I've done the Tipo easily with its 12mm sump plug but the Marea is proving itself annoying.

Any ideas people? I'm going to have to buy a new plug as its now looking a bit rough

It's urgent as I'm at the parents and their yard is full of big green catapilar!

tried drowning it in pentrating oil? tried whacking the socket round, using the sudden impact to 'break' it ?

Yeah got breaker bars but I'm worried about breaking it, rather than loosening it.

then get a reaaaaalllllllllllllly long bar like i had to get the garage to do on my uno and wiggle it a bit both ways and see if the bugger comes off...

remeber WD40 isn't a pentrating oil, it's a water displacement. you need a pentrating oil to get into the threads

Its soaked, from the outside and the inside. I've shocked it with hammers and telling it that its getting sold and I'm buying a Micra. Attacked it with a breaker bar until my wrists clicked

Anyone know if a garage would loosen it? It's driving me mad.

sounds a daft question, but are you sure you are moving it anticlockwise?
has it given any? when hitting with a hammer, the shock needs to be transfered to the plug. any looseness at the hex will make this void. plugs are very hard, so dont worry about breaking one. but for a small amount, get a new one first with new washer.

socket/wrench it, then pair of extention bars and a 19mm socket on end of it (over the wrench handle), and you've got yourself something which will loosen just about anything

Yeah I got it out with the help of my dad when he got home!

Used the 8mm hex but rather than putting it in the 10mm socket and going for it with a ratchet, we held the hex in the jaws of a very large adjustable and while hanging on the end we thumped it with a ruddy great hammer.

Oh that and plenty of heat and spray.

Took the copper washer up to bright red and dropped it in water to soften it.

Aparently you need to wrap the plug in ptfe tape to stop the plug picking up off the alloy sump. I didn't know to do this until after its been done so I'll probably need the big adjustable next year

yes you can get an electrolocis with the different metals. puting a small amount of ptfe around stops this and makes a tight seal as well.
