Im after an uno turbo, but cant find one thats not had its arse ragged off. Or is in semi-good condition. The only one In found was £2000! And that was in pretty good condition, but I cant afford that kind of money for a 12+ year old car.

Wheres the best place to look for a decent uno turbo?

Ive mainly been looking on auto trader and ebay.

Im interested in a 1.4 model.

sorry mate, i cant say where you'll magicly get a good UT from. rare as fook in any condition, so good ones come along few and far between. keep looking, and view as many as u can. dont be too worried what the engines like, worry more about condition of the shell!

2000 isnt very much, imo this 1,4 does not mean much, just the MK2 engine. Technically both engines on MK1s and MK2s are 1,3l. MK1 1301 cc and MK2 1372cc, MK2 has just a little bit more more power and the turbo element from different company. My point is, any uno turbo you are tabout to find is worth buying. Old cars are they anyway and this 2000 pounds you will pay in no time anyway for the car. IMO MK1s are more beautiful :) But the place to find them, I have no idea where. You should look to www.mobile.de , there was quite killer MK1 for about 1500 euros. Not much, but yeah trying to find an uno turbo and in a good shape is quite hard- they always need something to be replaced. As I see you're from UK you have to have a car, where the wheel is located at the right.

Re red mk2 with 185bhp, i asked him if he had come to that figure after a rolling road session, 185 is too high with just those mods IMO. It will be interesting to see what he says..

tom to late already beaten u to it
this is wat he said

" the bloke i bought the car off had the rolling road report at 187bhp and when i picked up the car i forgot the log book and the rolling road report, he said he would forward them but never did so i had to apply for the log book and didnt really think to get the other but its been too long now to get it
but i saw the report so know its true but its up to you whether you believe it, i see your screen name is uno170bhp so i guess you have one or have had one and sure you will know that if mines faster then its got to be somewhere near. "
thanks

Thats exactly what i thought and i worded it that way. How i saw it was that he had written the same to another e-bayer thus suggesting he is either clever or doesnt know any better. If the turbo is standard it cant make 185bhp but i think from memory he said he didnt know either way. Tim used to have a mk2 with a hybrid, head work, zorst and filter with the boost set to 18 psi (high) and the things that beat we used to (a long time ago) estimate that to have 180 but we didn't know better and i dont think it did to be honest. Its a shame it never saw the rollers it was very very quick.

I may sell my uno turbo mk1, 1988 F in white, and it is in lovely condition. I am currently sourcing a gearbox for it though, as it is not very healthy. when I have sorted the box, it will be ready to sell. 102k, very very nice condition, fitted with modified mk2 1400cc engine/box/loom by fiat specialist. Bodywork not had ANY welding, and does not need any. Looks unmolested, but is very quick. Not rolling roaded, but going on past experience of prev uno turbos it is likely to have 160bhp+. I don't know what you guys think it is realsitically worth?? It owes me over £3500, but obviously I would never get that back, but hoping to get at least late teens for it? reluctantly selling, but race car project funds needed!! Don't like ebay particularly, so would prefer a true enthusiast to buy it!

Well fiatunoturbolover, Unoracer has your car :)

If you were buying a three-year-old car, I could understand the comment about not wanting one that's "had its arse ragged off". But these are now old cars. I think it's better to buy one that's been 'driven enthusiastically' rather than one that's sat around and been driven gently on lots of short trips. The former will have already had many parts replaced (e.g. suspension balljoints) while the latter will be needing those soon, and something may pop unexpectedly when you do drive it with the kind of vigour these cars were designed for.

The Mk1 approaching 'classic' status is indisputable because the prices for the Mk1 are the same, if not more, than the Mk2, despite being older... so the age is no longer a factor in determining the value (generally, the sign of a 'classic').

So, I think you should be choosing solely on condition and not age or mileage... and do remember that cheap cars are always cheap for a reason... if you want one that can be enjoyed NOW, rather than six months later, then it's worth paying the extra for a good 'un... the costs of rebuilds soon add up otherwise to say nothing of weeks and months of your 'free' time. I value my free time at $10/hour these days, which trims the time I spend on my cars ;)

Obviously it's a lot easier to maintain an Uno that's in good condition than it is to renovate a tatty-looking car, and also ugliness is more than skin-deep - if it looks bad at first glance, it's going to be a bigger job than you imagine to eradicate rust etc.

Just my thoughts :)

Well said Alex. Added to that is the fact that MkII's are marginally more robust, but at these ages it all depends on the individual car.

So Unoracer you're thinking of selling your MkI? A white MkI. It's not fair, I don't have the space or time right now but I'm so desperately after one. ****.

Oh well.

Matteo.
