UK - New 80MPH speed limit

It is also worth bearing in mind the general opinion amongst many motorists that the Police should be catching real criminals rather than wasting time picking on "innocent" motorists.

This is a cop out :) If everyone who is committing a minor crime suggested that the Police go and catch someone committing more serious crimes, then the Police would catch no one. Don't want to get in trouble with the Police? Don't break the law and don't talk back.

you only have to watch them police programs to see that many people committing motoring offences are also committing other crimes at the same time.

Exactly. I was driving along a dual carriageway after work one Friday night and a car was sitting behind me with really bright headlights which seemed to be out of allignment. They were shining in all three mirrors. I could see the Police van in front so I overtook at like 71mph and when I pulled off the dual carriageway they put their lights on and pulled me over. He said "You do realise you just overtook a Police vehicle which was doing the speed limit" I explained why I'd overtaken them, he said "yeah I could see his lights were a bit bright and asked is this your car, have you been drinking (Friday night of course), what's your name, where do you live etc etc. They looked through the windows into the back of the car to see what was in there and sent me on my way.

If you don't speed stupidly or give the Police any lip I think you're unlikely to encounter any problems.

It would have been interesting to see what would have happened if you could have slowed down and encouraged the van with the wonky lights to pass you, so it would havebeen behind the police van. Having said that, if they could see that the van's lights were out of alignment already why didn't they do something about it I wonder?

The van was the Police van, the wonkily lit vehicle was another car.

Exactly - and also how it can be that somebody drives a stolen car at crazy speeds on roads, through parks, hedges, and has 3 police cars, several officers and a helicopter involved and the final result is a ban for 12 months even though they haven't passed a test in the first place, and a few weeks in a crime finishing school?
In some forces this must represent a high proportion of the avaialble officers at the time and always has me shouting at the telly:
"after all that, he gets away with that???!"

Agree, if the book says xxx is against the law then surely those breaking the law should be punished - and severely punished.
The touchy-feely namby-pamby brigade should butt out. A driving ban is completely meaningless to many as they will buy a cheapo off ebay & run it as they please using cloned plates off an identical motor.
These days, only honest, decent people worry about the law - the rest simply push the boundaries & generally get away with it.

When I see my son paying nearly 3 grand a year insurance even with 3 years experience, I am proud of him but angry at the same time because deep down you know that the way things work nowadays if he stepped out of line, because he has a job, pays tax and has a clean record, and wouldn't try and stab the police officer, if he got pulled he would have the book thrown at him.

haha Very well played (y)

Was an interesting, but slightly over-dramatised series. Keep on waving

Unfortunately that is exactly what does happen.

We're not just talking about low-life scumbags here either, perfectly reasonable, respectable, middle class daily mail readers are often genuinely dismayed that they are being prosecuted for some trifling offence.

Even drink drivers are often of the opinion that the police shouldn't be wasting their resources on them and should be "out there catching burglars" They also firmly believe that the Police are the ones responsible for them losing their licence and in some cases their jobs, again these are often professional people such as teachers and doctors

Tbh we should just euthanise anyone who reads the Daily Mail. That would sort a lot of the problems out in the UK. Voted for the BNP? Euthanasia..... UKIP? Well we won't kill you, but you're going to be sterilised.

Air Consumption's critical!

So glad you don't get air brakes on cars :D

much easier system to work on!! The thing is people WILL kill themselves with it! But for the extra cost of maintaining and running the system its not really worth it on cars...

Im pretty sure the air consumption critical scene was staged to high heaven... In my experience air pipes dont just blow off like that!

I am sure this was tongue firmly in cheek, but I am pretty sure that the readership of the DM is far greater than BNP have voters! So on that basis not all DM readers can be BNP voters. In fact if all claimed DM readership voted BNP, and the ratio of votes cast to seats won was the same as the Tories achieved, BNP would have come a comfortable third place, ahead of Lib Dems. Now that would be something to worry about!

Oh no, I wasn't suggesting that DM readers necessarily voted for the BNP, I just meant that were better off with none of them in this country. Should give them all some cash and ship them off to Australia or something.
