hi

I was wondering if you can suggest me what tyres to buy for bravo. Till now I used Michelin pilot sx-gt 195, 50 R15 but after 2 years they are worn out. So can you tell me what tyres are the best.
thanks

Tyre choices

I use the pilot sports on my HGT and in my opinion are the best tyre i've used throught my days of motoring.
I have tryed Yoko's, Goodyears, Avons and Dunlops but find they don't give the amount of grip of the pilot sports.

But in recent years a couple or relativly new manafactutres (to the uk!!!) have come about

These are Falken and Fulda.

The falken ZE502 has come ranked high in recent testing by a selection of magazines. They have race pedagree from the Skyline series in Japan - so there not crap!!!

The other is from the Fulda range a Jap tyre again. The Extremo has also come TOP in some tyre testing beating the likes of Yoko A520's and SX GTs, which is no mean feat!!!!

These are both extremly good makes of tyre and friends that have used them (ZE502's)say they are well pleased with them. They arn't incredibly expensive either a 195/45/15 ZE502 can be found for £65 all in (fitting, ballancing etc)

What i may recomend though is now the time has come to change your tyres think about increaseing to a 205/50/15. You'll keep the same rolling radius - so no probs with tracking or speedometers, but the extra width does give a much better ride at high speed (above 90mph) and is much more stable than the 195's.
The steering is slightly heavier when parking (very slightly mind) and even though it has a lower profile the ride isn't harder than the 195/55's

I can't remember if you mentioned you car but if it is the HGT or HLX (seeing as you have 195's) you may want to think about this?? Then agin you may not travel at high speed.

Hope this has helped a little and hope other's have got feedback for you too.

More choice

Loggy,

Looks like tyres are very much a personal thing. Some makes can only be separated by looks alone. I haven't tried the Michelin Pilots, but am currently running Yokohama A539s. They have excellent wet and dry grip characteristics, look good, and have some rim protection. Important when your using 205/40/17s.

I may try the Bridgestone SO-2s next as I've read good reviews about them too. TVR fit them as standard so they can't be that bad.

hi steve

I really apreciate all this information you gave to me, it's maybe not a bad idea to switch to 205 50 R 15. I'm driving 100SX, but the wheels were upgraded to 15" latter. I was wondering if you get better grip from 205 than 195. and what is the difference in price between them. thanx

yokohama

hi

I know about the A593's. They sure are good, but they are expensive too. I know because my father uses them on civic VTi, but the difference in price is about twice as much for yoko, as for pilot sx. thanks

Tyres

Hi, Don't forget to look at Toyo Proxes T1-S I have tried them on my HGT and found them to be very good. Plenty of grip in the wet and reasonably hard wearing.
Cheers

205 tyres

205/50 x 15 tyres do produce a better grip in your car

the difference in price between 195 and 205 tyres isn't so big, in Argentina is like U$S20 each tyre.

I recommend you MICHELIN PILOT SPORT
but they are SO EXPENSIVE !!!

Then you should check out DUNLOP SP SPORT 9000

they both are ultra high perfomance tyres, better than Yokohama A520 & A539, and they last longer

Yokohama, Dunlop, Michelin

Dunlop is by far the worst of the bunch, with yokohama being the ones with better grip. Michelin, i had those on my older 1.4 12v bravo and they slipped on me once so i don't think i'll ever use them again. I have yokohama now on my JTD105 (195/50R15) for over 1 year (26,000Kms) and no sign of wear yet, they have awesome grip, look great and yes, they were expensive like hell but doesn't your life/security count ?

These are A539 btw.

Tyre choice

I was running Falkens for nearly 2 years on my 100TD, but recently changed to Uniroyal tyres. What a difference in wet grip (useful in Scotland!).

Previous cars have ran on Michellin and Continental. Michellin probably the best I ever ran on but expensive. Continental probably the worst, but still dear!

205 tryes

Yes the 205's will give you more grip than the 195's, and like i said more stability at higher speeds. In my opinion it's a well worth 'mod' switching to the 205's.
And since it is that time it's worth considering even more. As for the price difference i can't remember but it should't be outrageous. £10-£30 maybe, not really sure.
