General Tyre sizes

At the risk of sounding somewhat stupid I have a question..
Tyres are often identified by 3 groups of numbers. For instance
185/50X14. What do these numbers mean? I guess the 14 is the diameter of the wheel rim but, what do the others mean. Cheers.[?]

185 is the tyre width in millimetres.
50 is the 'aspect ratio' - relates to sidewall height. It's a percentage, multiply the width by the ratio and you get the sidewall height - e.g. 185/50 tyres will have 185mm tread width and a sidewall height of 185 x 0.5 = 92.5mm
