hi everyone,

i have a question about the boost pressure on the cinq turbo, you see it still runs with no intercooler at the moment but you may all remember i recently fitted the decompression plate with the new engine taking the c/r down to 8.5/1, and i wanted to now what kind of pressure i could run safely, the reason is this,,,,i have the greddy profec B spec 2 boost controller fitted and it controlles boost gains by % over the 0.35bar that vanaaken set it to, since the engine compression was lowered i had to raise the pressure slightly because the engine was pritty gutless at low boost on the decomplate so its been set to 20% over standard (0.42bar) which brought the power and torque up nicly and safly at the RR with no probs at all, but a certain person thought the nice shiny bottons on the boost controller where fun to turn so with out me nowing the boost was turned up to 28% (about 0.45bar) and i could feel the car was more poky,,,and made me smile more than usual, it was only earlyer a noticed the gain on the controller was raized so i turned it back down.
its left me wanting to no what can i run at the most at the moment????
one of the boost gauges actually reads a touch about 0.55bar, and the psi gauge reads around 7ish.

other than thats guys the car is suprisingly well, its been starting up perfect and the plugs aernt sutting up anymore, no gerkyness or stuuttering, just a bad idle which i have now ordered a wiring loom for so hope and pray that will cure it, its off for the MOT tomorow and its been treated to 4 new toyo tyres, 2 new wheel bearings, new front bottom arm bushes and its taking a trip to the body shop soon to put the bumper and wing right :D
i plan to have the cooler fitted pritty soon but the plans for an aftermarket ecu, knock sensor and wideband lambda will have to wait a while yet till the huge list of "things to do on the cinq" is smaller.

cheers

jason

With a CR of 8.3:1 I'm running a boost of 1.33bar (19.3psi) & can go higher, which doesn't give me much gain due to other limitations, but I am running with a rather nice intercooler.

wow! lots of boost there then :D
love to see how that goes, well you see im not running the cooler yet so talks of high boost are way off, just a safe increase is what im intersted in, and i need to correct myself my c/r is 8.6/1

thanks

I would have thought you should be OK with 0.5 bar at WOT as long as you are not foot on the floor all the time. The cold weather helps too but you really need to get the intercooler on to go higher. iirc the 1108 Hi boosts were 0.6bar straight from VAD with an intercooler fitted so you're sailing at the edge. But there again you're a dab hand at engine swaps now if it all goes Pete Tong:p

I'm at 1.2bar on overboost and once the LSD is fitted (suprised you've not signed up) and the water/meathonal injection is plumbed in

didnt no the high boosts where 0.6 bar, makes me nervous. and ye i dont thrash it about, mostly just foot half way down, pulls about nicly at that.
and yes the engine swap is a deffinate specialty now
by the way i fear the turbo seals are weeping, on tick over after a run it smalls like oil, and smokes abit, did it on the other engine a litttle two

as for the diff id love one,,,,really really love one, but i feel like that money could go towards the list above like the ece, safty ecu, im a few leaps behind you on the spec haha got to catch up.

I know what you mean about the diff, I've got loads of stuff i'd love to do with the other cars but after a lot of soul searching, i really think this will be a one off. All the FIRE tuning nutters have signed up to this and there is a trusted organiser. I doubt there will be enough people ever again to do this and as it looks like quaife will not list this as a stock item :( s once the boat sails that will be it. I think this is the key to the last part of the evolution of Cento's. (oh and by the way whether you buy one or not you'll be helping me swap mine :p)

Mine smells a bit oily at times but as it never uses a drop of oil i'm not worried (and mine is a new (ish) turbo) but i find the type of oil makes a difference (Mobile Semi synth smells more than Castrol Edge), but mine never smokes, are you sure it's not just steam?

ill probably regret the diff thing more once its high boost but ill have to live with it ,,,,,,wish i had more funds haha. no worries on the fitting of the diff just give me a bell id be happy to help.
ermmm well could be steam,it really does stink and there can be a fair amount of smoke coming out when its idling only, and when engine is very warm, at first i had a feeling the exhaust turbine seal might be seeping due to low back pressure but id be the first i believe :(
coolant does go down very very slightly every so often tho.i use mobil 10w/40 and some wynns oil treatment, engine runs so so smooth like this, not a rattle ot noise from the engine what so ever, just a pur :), i thought the castrol was more smelly but i used to use mobil 15w/50 fully syn, great stuff just a bit to dear for someone who changes the oil every 1500miles

ow and good new the car passed its MOT today :D:D

cheers

we use silkolene pro s at work for the single and twin turbos. very expensive stuff tho!

Cheers, Josh

hi guys just to say been running the car at 0.55 bar since the beginning of this thread and its seems perfect, pulls really well :D
however im going back to the rolling road again really soon because id feel better having the fuel pressure turned up and the mf2 tweaked and the boost controller set up, then i can see hows shes doing in turms of power, it lost 5 pony's after the decomp plate was fitted but with the car running better and the boost turned up a little should see a nice improvement. it ran its highest at 105bhp for a first run and then settled at 96.3bhp after 5 runs at 0.37 bar last time then after the decomplate was fitted it was up and down between 88 and 93 and it feels a whole lot faster than it ever has done right now so ill let you now how it goes on.
cant say this weather has been good fun though, a change of underwear is needed after trying to drive in the snow just once!, cinqs are not the best snow cars as standard but with a turbo,,,,,,,,pritty dam scary haha.

also a question, anyone no of anywhere/anyone who could make up some intercooler pipeing? i really am desperate to get the cooler on but just cant pipe it up myself  tryed with an ebay pipeing kit but just was a waste of time,,,,,,,,,,,,anyone???

thanks

jason

Jason,

give me a bell and we'll see if we can share a RR session! i need some figures for mine as it is scaring the sh*t out of me right now and i need to know what i'm dealing with! i've stripped 2 drive shafts now on the near side and a hub so am a bit concerned, but as my spare kidney will fund the LSD i hope this will sort it:cool:

Oh and mine Cinq has a flat battery for the last week and is sat covered in snow as it is the last car i'd dream of driving at the moment.

Not really sure what that says when I've chosen a RWD supercharged sports car instead

Im using the punto ic but cant take any pictures as iv taken it all apart to change pistons (8v) but the old turbo the outlet faced down so there was a 90degree bend there with about 12inch of ally pipe across with another 90degree to bottom of ic, ic is side ways looking from the front the holes will be on the left, then a 45degree from the top of ic to around 6inch of ally pipe to the dump valve T piece to another 90degree to the top hat bob, but the top hat pipe points to the right so the ally pipes dont go over the engine so dont soak in as much heat from the engine and manifold
hope that helps i might not need what im using depending on the new turbo will let you know in a few days if i dont need the piping i got
i got some ally tubing at work in straight and 90degree bends but smallest diameter is 50mm which is what im using but thats all mirror polished

hi and thanks, i have the same punto intercooler, did you leave your compressor housing facing down then?? as i dont really want to attempt moving it round. and thanks hope to hear from you soon.

jason :)

I got the place who i bought the turbo off to move it to point down they had to drill and tap the housing to fix the actuator on.
Did you get the blocked decked when ya fitted the spacer plate? That could cause a slight water leak but its a wild guess

dont like the sound of drilling and tapping on the turbo

i didnt no mate, i simply cleaned it up best i could, looked and felt ok when id done with it, it never lost any water on the old engine but that never had the decomp plate on it, its really hard to say what causing it, it hasnt lost anymore water for a while now and for the last week or more its not been smoking at all
even as an ex mechanic the smell is very hard to pin point, smells like nothing ive smelt before, almost like silicone burning in the exhaust strangly.

cheers

jason

work out what u need and order it from sfs?

thought about this arc but i was worried about the big price tag involved and maybe making a slight mistake in the measuring and the angles etc, as you no its so tight in there, the inlet pipe from the turbo to the airfilter takes up all the path of the intercooler pipes at the moment :(

thankyou

If it helps iv got all my piping off so you can use them to see exactly what you need to order
