I was wondering how much tuning can you do to the 899cc, I have fitted a K+N induction kit, a twin 3inch Sportex backbox, full slicone ignition leads and NGK spark plugs. I was thinking about chipping it with a superchip or another make (if you can buy one for my engine). Will it do much, i.e to performance, drivability and insurance!(I'm only 17!)
Any other reasonable mod ideas would be great.
Cheers!:)

P.s. I realise that the only way to go really fast is engine conversion or different car!

Replace tranny oil, put in synthetic engine oil and replace the coolant.

I did my tranny oil at the wkend- Id lost all of it whilst doing the clutch...It changes better than it did.... Still fairly notchy though.. I understand BBR-GTi http://www.bbrgti.com do a StarChip for the 899cc engine that gives it 10BHp more. Dunno how much it costs though?

The HT Leads any better? And the Plugs?

I haven't declared me mods cus they haven't done much. If I do become unfortunate then I'll have to act ignorant! HT leads I haven't noticed cus I fitted them at the same time as the induct kit.

yeah but I'm not the first and won't be the last. I know a mechanic who owns a garage and he said not to bother. It's when people don't declare turbos and chips, that you have to worry.

It doesn't actually add that much to declaire an induction kit. Usually adds about £50 if that. Reason i know this is because i asked when i rang up for insurance, and was told that, only reason some people dont declaire is that quite a few insurance companies dont want the car modified in any way.

www.elephant.co.uk are the cheapest to declaire mods with :)

Another day...another problem...

Christ. Elephant tried to rape me up the botty for insurance anyway. Id hate to declare mods..

Current insurers want £150 extra for a 300cc increase in engine size!!

I make no apologies in saying that you are one of the 1/20 who are driving an uninsured car and hence costing me and every other driving money per year. Your mechanic unfortunately isn't the law and nor is he the one who wrote your insurance policy. If you were to hit someone tomorrow and put there back out you could be liable to massive costs which would lead to you being bankrupt. I don't care how many others do it, you shouldn't and it is not fair on everyone else who either 1) drives a standard car and insures it or 2) Modifies a car and pays for it.

Before you say "I pay enough, why should i have to pay more?" I pay enough also at £900. I therefore make the choice not to modify to stay within the law/save myself money, you can't do both of these at the same time. If you read your policy you will see the problem with your car.

You have insufficient insurance for your car and are hence considered underinsured therefore UNinsured to drive on UK roads.

I totaly agree with pghstochaj on this. i pay £900 ish fully comp with no mods on my car. its a disgrace that my insurance will go up by £60 to cover people who drive with out insurance
[V] once again the innocent driver is being penalised. If someone is caught driving without insurance, they should be given a £5,000 + fine and a long ban. not a samll fine depending on the incedent.

driving with undeclared mods is as bad as driving with no insurance at all. if you were to crash badly and you cause it, and the other person involved is injured, not only will ur insurance co refude to pay out as ur currently commiting fraud, if the other person were to make a personal injury claim, then that will be coming out of ur pocket, as well as all repairs.

trust me, its worth paying an extra £100-500 to declare ur mods than running the risk of paying out £20,000 because u broke someones arm in a crash.

worth thinking about

899cc of pure bred italian muscle!

yeah but I'm not the first and won't be the last

Also, if evry1 had that attitude then why do insurance companies exist if evry1 is going to commit fraud????

sorry for going on but as ChrisLusty said, us law abiding people are ending up paying for little ***** like you who pay money to have a faster car, probly to drive like a boy-racer (ie dangerously) and then pay £xxx to insure, altho ur not covered coz ur mods arent declared. y spend that money on ur 'insurance?' save it and put more undeclared mods on and dive to the pub get trashed and drive home coz ur not the first and wont b the last person to drink drive

Rant over!

Forget about the other insurance companies, I'm with Liverpool And Victoria and they said I can Mod my car as much as I want as long as i DONT increase the actual CC size of the engine. I've got a Novitec Carbon Fibre Airbox, Full stainless Steel Supersprint exhaust system including manifold, and have enquired about lowering springs, Punto GT disks and Calipers, as well as tinted windows, and different alloy wheels, and they said none of them count. So my quote stayed the same.

As long as I have photos of all the parts fitted to the car incase of an accident then thats all they need. I could hardly believe my ears I was over the moon.

Trust me give them a try you shouldn't regret it.

Hope this helps

Brian

Maybe if every1 was insured and they changed the system ie have a tax like disk in the window to prove you have paid insurance, in the end insurance quotes should come down as we who pay shouldnt have to compensate those who dont [:(!] (or am i just dreaming?)

it turns out that unfortunately u r mr lusty. the world is an evil place and it doesnt end on the battle field, it leaks out into law abiding citizens laps in the form of freud, theft and assult.

we have all been on the sour end and its not pleasant, there will always be those who get away with inflicting this injustice.

its one of those things, hopefully this rant at robbo may hav encouraged him to do the right thing and if it doesnt we will still be stewing in our own rage over the whole subject.
personally mr lusty ur only doin urself in over the long term, people like u r putting ur own premium up, even ur premium in a couple of decades when u may hav hung up the boyracer attitude. even ur son's premium when he want to insure his first car and asks you 4 help.

i makes me sick how, because im 17 automatically im classed as a boyracer even tho my car is standard and i hav a clean license. and it is because of people like you.

***If you were to hit someone tomorrow and put there back out you could be liable to massive costs which would lead to you being bankrupt.***
not to mention council road maintence and sweeping that normally gets charged to the insurance company along with towing fees, end the endless phone calls and agrangements that can leed to nervous breakdown

put their back out?? f**k that, what if he killed sum1 in a crash??

having been in a crash myself and knowing how close i came to dying or worse killing some1 else putting the hassle of insurance freud ontop wud have ruined me.

by driving u hav the ability to do alot of damage THAT is not worth messing around with
