Toyota Corolla Rattle

[Most Easterly Pandas]

1.6 16v 2002 automatic Corolla. Awful rattle as ou can hear. I've checked all the obvious and oil seems to be getting to the rocker cover as is was splashing about when I took filler cap off when running.

Anyone got any ideas?

My mates 1.6 16v vvti recently died with a "tractor like rattle" on a Motorway near us. Had a full service in January, 55k miles on an 03 plate I think... partial seize... oil pump is the suspect...

Good plan M.E.P! Oil pressure test should reveal anything, my mates died very suddenly, little warning except for the rattle & oil light which lit up at the same time at 70MPH... I really didnt think that was a very Toyota thing to do... niether did he... he's now waiting for a couple of quotes... 1 for a replacement lump, the other for a re-build. That one single incident has put him right off Toyota... despite it being a proper pearl all its life.

Apparently the 1.6 16v Toyota engine in the corolla is the 1zz.
