Hi, have problems with ignition on my Tipo 1.6 sx '92 - carb version. Randomly - no spark only when cranking. After few minutes or hours or days - ignites normally and runs OK. When I switch off , there's 50% probabbility to ignite. The engine never stops untill switched off. Voltage on HT coil connector - OK. TDC sensor changed. Spark plugs OK.
Thanks for your opinion!

I think your car has an old-fashioned setup with carb and distributor & coil ignition. If you have changed the crank sensor and you are sure that the problem is no spark generation, the problem is probably the traditional one of a failed or failing component in the ignition circuit.

Run the engine in the dark to see if there is any leaking in the HT system. It can be that plug leads fail and give a short circuit to the engine block and therefore bad spark (unlikely with Tipo's external plug fitting). You need to check that the distributor is OK and that it is receiving the HT from the electronic coil unit.

Hi ,
thank you for support.
I localized the failure on ECU connection. When I moved the connector a little bit up and down, the engine stopped. I dismounted the ECU module and cleaned contacts. After assembled - it works. But I am not sure 100%. Might be also cold solder joint on the PCB inside ECU on terminal.
Thanks again

I think that the coil is playing with you. On my Tempra it is betwen the left headlight, and the battery. Maybe you get moist on the coil, and then it shortcuts with the battery stand. In that case you don't get any spark on the sparkplugs. When it's dry, the car starts fine!
