Hi there, i'm new here, i'm owner of the fiat tipo 1,4 dgt carburettor edition.
I have been told that i should service my carb because of the high fuel consumption. Nobody near me doesn't service carburretors, so i plan to do it myself. So i bought the kit, but can anyone help me with somekind of carburretor manual. I have a standard weber tlde 32/34 carburretor. Please, i'm desperate!

I found this on a miafiori rebuild - same carb...


Write down the jet numbers from primary and secondary. Also if
you do take apart throttle shaft, use a piece of wire, and as
you remove stuff from the shaft, slide it on the wire in the
same order/orientation. That way it's easy to put it back.
If you do take everything off, you can take it to a specialized
shop to dip it into carb cleaner fuild and ultrasound tank..
That should pretty much get rid of everything..
The alternate method I used on my TLDE (take a look at the pics
before/after) is the following.. After removing EVERYTHING off
the carb, I took a deep dish, filled it with water, put the carb
in, and put in A LOT OF STRONG detergent. I used a non liquid
laundry detergent - a very powerful one.. Put it on a stove, and
let it slowly boil for like 30 mins.. Make sure that the temp
changes are gradual.. Get a pair of good rubber gloves (so you
don't get burned), and a good nylon brush, remove the carb parts
from the hot water, and clean them (TLDE has like 3 sections)..
Just don't put it under cold water.. Sudden temp change would
destroy it/crack it/deform it.. Also with the water still warm
take it outside, and for every little hole in the carb body
first dip it into hot water, and then blow the water out with
air-gun... It is far more effective to clean passages in the
carb body with the water pushed by high speed air, than just the
air itself.. Just make sure that you removed everything first -
you don't want parts flying around, or jets damaged by water..
Also you can repeat the detergent procedure a few times (I did
it twice).. After you are done, do the same thing, just without
the detergent this time.. That way you will get rid of any
detergent deposits inside the carb.. The carb looks virtually
new.. Just for the kicks, I took it to the carb shop for
ultrasound cleaning afterwards.. NOTHING came out.. The guy was
amazed by the carb body, and asked me how I did it - he claims
that ultrasound thing never gets it THAT clean.. Just be careful
not to hurt yourself (ie hot water flying out of the carb
body...). Assembly in reverse order ;).. Get some carb shaft
grease, and use it.. Not too much.. Oh, and removing the
throttle plates is a bit tricky.. Well worse than a bit...
That's the hardest part.. Maybe you should just stick to the
basic rebuild :)..
 
High fuel consumption might just mean that the fuel the air ratio is out, you'll need to bring it to a garage to get them to stick an emissions tester in the exhaust, I had mine done the other day on me 1.6 and the engine idles almost silent and no longer vibrates and Fuel consumption has gone way down.

Heres a print out of the results:

CO % Vol = 1.52
CO2 % Vol = 13.86
HC ppm Vol = 149
O2 % Vol = 1.35
Half Life (upside down Y) = 1.012
 
HI guys! Tnx 4 the help. A frend lend me the haynes manual, so i found my type of carburator, the biggest problem was the setting of the float height. My float was all wrong it was not set well at all, anyways the setting is from 29,75 to 30,25 mm. I cleaned the whole carburetor, i was especially careful with the jets and venturis, and now it's all ok. Anyways, i went to the garage about 1,5 months ago to get my CO set. They set it alright, but the consumption was still very high. Now it's back to normal, open road about 6-7, city about 9-10.
