Hi there,
I'm new here so please excuse me if this has been answered before.
I have a Tipo stationwagon 1.4tjet petrol with 63k miles on the clock first registered in 2017.
As its now 5 years old I've been advised to get the timing belt and water pump changed at its next service which is due now.
However I'm part exchanging the car in August and don't really want to spend the £500 for this work to be done.
I'm happy to get the car serviced.
Do you think I can get away with not getting the belt changed yet?
It will only do about 1k miles more before it goes.
Regards
Paul

£500? 😮 Was this at a main dealer

No, I've shopped around and that's the cheapest I can get it for, that's for full service plus timing belt and pump change, Inc vat.
Dosent sound like a bad price for what work is being done. You may well get away without doing the belt. Me personally, I would just get it serviced because the belt is recommended at 72K I beleive

Have to say Paul, that sounds like an Ok price for the service and belt especially as it includes the water pump too - always a good idea.
Can I ask you how you've got on with the Tipo? A Tipo T-Jet station wagon is on the short list of replacements for my boy's ancient 2007 Astra 1.6 estate but we've not yet been able to get a test drive in one.

I'm not sure if it'll make any difference but bear in mind that I got a washing machine sideways in my Tipo hatchback boot and was able to keep the rear seats upright, so you may be surprised at the load carrying capacity of the hatchback, which has a lot more T-Jet engined examples.

I'd folded the back seats down ready for this washing machine and was aghast when it went in with enough space to fold them back upright!

Thanks very much for that Liam. Yes, I think the hatch would probably do Mrs J and myself if the car was being bought for us. However this is going to be my boy's work and leisure vehicle. They do have a wee old Mk1 Jazz which serves for social local trips but longer trips and holidays with the 2 kids needs something bigger. He is a self employed sign writer and carries ladders long enough to get up to shop fronts and all the other paraphernalia of his trade in the car through the week - just got to be an estate!

Good to hear of the capacity of the hatch though. If my 2016 Ibiza, with it's wee stressed 3 cylinder direct injection turbo petrol engine starts to become too temperamental I could be tempted by a Tipo with this engine in it myself.

Oh yes with big ladders & the like, I can see the need for the estate. There are a few T-Jet estates on AutoTrader currently, but finding them in the right place could prove a waiting game I imagine.

Definitely consider the Tipo hatch for yourself though. If you want Street cred & excitement then it's not the car, but as a no-frills A to B car that does most things reasonably well & space/practicality brilliantly, it's worth a look.

Yes, finding an estate with this engine locally will be quite difficult but not impossible. Luckily I have a friend in the trade who sources vehicles for people and I'm sure he'll help when the time comes. Lots of diesels about though - unfortunately we don't want a diesel.

At 75 years "young" Street Cred and Excitement have somewhat taken a back seat these days. Anonymity, comfort and a quiet life being more of a priority now!
