Ticking noise at 2000rpm

I recently noticed a ticking noise coming from the engine area which occurs at about 2000rpm then disappears at aroung 2500rpm. Does anyone know what this could be?

It seams to be worse when accelerating than deccelerating. As a guide to the noise, the ticking rate is about 3 ticks per second.

The car is a 1.6 sx (2000 X plate)

Ticking Noise

I've noticed same problem, coming from right hand side of the car, just in front of the bulk head.

Mine is more visible at idle, and mine is 1.4sx 97.

Any clues people ?

Me too, I just put it down to poor build quality, but I must admit, it does sound like a relay or something. Mine too is coming from the bulkhead right hand side (1.6SX)

Tappets

I thought it may be the tappets or something, only really experienced this on an old XR3i years ago.

Anyone out there, any clues ?

yes tappets

yes, they are the tappets.. it is because the engine has hydraulic ones...

nothing to worry about... rover cars are the same.

Thanks for the comments. I also get a slight blip of revs when I release my foot off the accelerator. Does this indicate that the cambelt tensioner is on it's way out (I seam to remember reading it somewhere). The previous owner was a hire car company which may explain these problems.

Constant Ticking Noise

I have a constant loud ticking noise coming from the drivers side of the engine which gets faster/slower as I accelerate/decelerate - any ideas? I have a Marea 1.6sx

I had this on my 80sx, i took it to fiat and they ended up replacing the gearbox which was ok as it was still under warrenty, the noise went away and 13000 miles later still no noise. It was somthing to do with the syncro mesh inside the box, it had worn away, but it all started when i had a crunch from 1st to 2nd, fiat replaced the selector fork, a couple of days later i had the ticking sound. I know the gearbox is on the left hand side of the car but the sound does come from the right,

Yer - I think mine is the same - a kinda ticking with a slight sqweel too?
