Hi all, ever since buying my 53 plate ulysse I have thought that I do not have much accelerator travel. I went out to hoover her out earlier and had a quick look at the accelerator pedal while I was out there. I have about an inch of pedal movement before it hits the floor, is this normal?. The cable seems to have alot of play but there is no way of adjusting at the pedal end. Is there an adjuster at the other end and if so where do I find it?.

Thanks in advance

Scotty

To check my throttle movement, I got my wife to press the accelerator pedal to the floor while I felt the accelerator position sensor under the bonnet to see if it was moving to the end of its travel. I found mine was not turning fully to its stop.

I removed part of the weather strip at the bottom of the driver's door, the plastic cover over the driver side fan and the two plastic carpet fasteners to the right of the accelerator pedal. This allowed me to move the carpet clear of two 11mm nuts holding the accelerator pedal bracket to the footwell.

With the nuts removed, I removed the accelerator pedal/bracket from the car by easing it down to release its (ball) end, which slides in a plastic lever attached to the accelerator cable. I removed the pedal from its bracket (held in place by a small clip). The next step was to put one end of the pedal lever in the vice and bend it slightly to increase pedal clearance from the car floor.

After re-assembling everthing, I re-checked that the accelerator position sensor was moving to its stop when the pedal was pressed to the floor.

If your accelerator position sensor moves to the limit of its travel when your pedal is on the floor, no adjustment will be necessary

There is adjustment at the throttle sensor which is located just under the bulkhead (can be seen easily if you get a helper to operate pedal while you look under bulkhead).

You will notice that cable sits into a bracket behind sensor. You can pull the cable back towards cabin, pull off metal spring clip and reposition to tension cable.

This clip is sometimes missing due to an incompetent dropping into engine bay and not retrieving, so leaving cable slack. It can be purchased readily at most PSA dealerships but can also be made up from a piece of stiff wire.

If it is not missing and cable is adjusted to full and sensor is not opening fully the cable is obviously stretched and should be replaced as it could snap at any stage.

Personally I would not become involved in messing at pedal end!
