Took my clicking clutch to Fiat dealer today and they said they're 80% certain its the slave cylinder, showed me where it is, and sound does sound like its coming from there. Is the arm the part before it that has a small rubber joint before joining the cylinder? As surely I should have the arm replaced as well...anyway Labour £57 + cylinder £12 + VAT.

Then went to MR Clutch they said 100% not the slave and they said its just rust, they said its best to strip it all down and lubricate it all and put it all back together..no new parts and £235 for labour!

Next AA Centre they said easiest thing to do is replace the clutch as it should cure it...£200. I asked if this replaces the arm or slave and they said no they are fine!

So any suggestions? as said the creaking does look like its coming from the part you can see when you look down into the engine.

Thanks

yea, i got the same problem and assumed that it was the arm part joining to the slave cylinder. The arm is rusty and this is why, i think it catches on something.

well u know wat i think will solve the problem (if uve read ur other post). id go for the new slave cylinder and if this doesnt stop the clicking u can go back and say 'errrrmm the clicking is still there!!!'

EVERYONE- SPRAY YOUR PUNTOS BLACK

Thats what I'll probably do, but they've covered themselves by saying 80% the slave!

If you want try ebay cause there are guys on there selling the diagnostic info that the Fiat dealer has on their PC's load it up and see what it says. The discs go for about a fiver and are well worth it. Also if your lucky you can get the one with all the part numbers for most punto types:)

Hornet, is your car under warranty? or are you paying for the slave cylinder out of your own pocket? These days garages just change things for the sake of changing things. Gone are the days where mechanics actually repair stuff. I have been thinking about your clutch problem, and the only part of the slave that could click is behind the piston. I recommend pulling the seal back and grease up the piston and cup refit and try? may stop the creaking if it doesn't I can't see that a new one will either? but It's a easy and inexpensive way to check! Let me know how you get on.

ive got a 'clicking' sound on the clutch on my mk2 punto, and sometimes it seems as though its going to stall.

ive taken it back to fiat many times, they replaced the clutch with another one, but the problem still hasnt gone.

its seems the problem with me is that there was a batch of 'faulty clutches' which fiat are now recalling, there was a problem with a part of the clutch, not sure what part though.

maybe this is what you are experiencing too...

Out of own pocket. Cheers for the further advice what grease do I buy? Car novice here!

Do you mean the part with the rubber round it? Rubber flexi part about 2 cms long?

My dealer took my car no. as they said I will be charged for no show as car booked in!

Also does it mean anything if the noise isn't present for the first 10 mins of driving? It only starts onece fully warmed up.

Firstly start by telling your dealer to do one! and not necessarily in those words, charging for a no show? at least you told them! Any grease would do, just to lubricate LM etc. even copper slip would do. I would undo the two 13mm bolts holding it on pull the rubber seal back remove the plunger(it should come away with the seal) check for leaks. Clean up both parts, grease up and give it a go. It's the only part that it could possibly be to make a noise in my mind. The fact that it's quiet when cold, without playing with it could be down to friction, if your really bored you could press the clutch pedal 80 odd times and see if the noise appears without the heat produced by the engine or Run the engine without driving until hot and see if the noise is instant or takes a while to reproduce.
Good Luck.

Rang dealer they said they took my card no. for this reason of no shows, will charge me for part & 50% of labour+VAT so all in all may as well have the new part for the sake of £25 now!

Is it possible the large bolt/nut before the rubber (presume this is the beginning of the arm?) could be making the noise?

Also is it right that all thats left after this is the arm & the actual clutch....they say the arm means taking the clutch apart also is that true? I take it if it still does it I'm best to have new clutch and arm fitted or is it possible it will just make the noise for a few years and not actually do anything?

I don't suppose you're based in the south!!!

Cheers

They do not have the right to take money from your account without your permission, whether you gave them the number or not. Phone the card company and dispute it. Once a customer paid for a full service on his wifes car, they split up and he phoned the card company and told them he did not want to pay for her service and they then forced us to refund the total amount! I hate it when large company's try and force customers. Why pay for the part you haven't had fitted! I wish you'd name and shame the t055ers, It makes my teeth itch!
anyway moving on.... The arm you can see basically is attached to the release bearing that pushes the pressure plate. Yes It's possible its causing the noise, but not guaranteed without listening to it myself it's not easy to say.
In order to change the arm you have to take the gearbox out. Lastly your clutch may click and last for days, months or years. I service cars with clutches that click like mad and customers don't mention it!
Yes I'm in the south.

They've fitted the new slave and the noise after a one hour drive hasn't happened, although it looks like there a lot of grease around it which could be stopping the noise anyway....so far so good and total cost £60.
