This sometimes indicates that the clutch release lever pivot bushes inside the bellhousing are shot - if so it's a gearbox off job to fix. If you are handy with the spanners you could do it easy in a day.

I have heard on the Fiat Uno and the Seat Ibiza, that the clutch cable 'going' is a common occurance, due to the design being originally LHD and the cable having to be re-routed for RHD.
Don't know if this is true, but it (kinda) makes some sense and may well be the SP on the Seicento.
My birds cinq has eaten 3 cables in 8 months and it is getting on my tits. They alway break at the same place. Is there nobody that sells a better reinforced cable or a way to convert it to a hydraulic clutch?
There's a triangular shaped plastic bit that the clutch cable end connects to inside the car, check that this is not damaged as it will pull the cable at an angle and break it if it is.

Yeah, I replace that every time, i've only had 1 snap.
Fixit- the punto sporting 1.2 had a hydraulic clutch the same as my 1.6 sporting. Was the conversion from cable easy?
If it makes all you rhd boys feel less hard done by , the clutch cable on my left hander snapped yesterday [:0].
What a very useful and informative forum you´ve all got here.
Oh , and hello , I´m new here
i had 2 go on me in a matter of about 3 months, both at that pivitol point, I now carry a spare on round with me and have learnt how to fix it myself.
I have been told that there is a way of strengthing it but I didnt really understand what the mechanic was going on about, but its got something to do with stretching it and routing it a different way, but I dont know

Mines gone twice in 2 years - not as much as some, but still very annoying - especially as one of those times was on the motorway [xx(]
I've heard that it's due to a poor RHD conversion aswell, that was off the AA guy who fixed it for me.
Why don't we all get together and petition a manufacturer to make a reinforced cable? Someone like AP racing could then sell it as part of a sports clutch kit surely? Worth a shot methinks, even though mine is under warranty still. Mind you at the rate they go you could nearly count the cable as a bloody consumable!
Oh and another annyoing fact is that when it got taken to Fiat, they said they'd never even heard of this fault! [!] No wonder they come bottom for so many customer satisfaction surveys if they didn't even know about that one!
