Is a good idea.

BUT

I think Pubs and maybe other public places like restaurants should be given the chance weather to be smoking or non smoking, that was everyone wins.. i'm sure it's a flawed idea though..

all i can think is you're buggered if you hate smoke and your local chooses to be a 'smoking pub'.

meh.. just an idea.

thoughts?

Had it here first, would never go back to the old system.

Thought the ban started a while ago in England?

1st July 2007 if I recall correctly.

thoughts?

The whole point behind the ban was public health. Allowing pubs/ clubs to opt out would defeat the purpose of bringing it in.

Personally I think it is a great idea. It was one of the kicks I needed to quit as I decided that I didn't want to be one of the desperados standing outside in the rain just because I wanted/ needed a cigarette. It also made it a lot more pleasant for the non smokers.

However, I do feel for those that still choose to smoke and have no-where to go unless the pub/ club provides sheltered/ heated outdoor areas. I know there have been cases where the outside area was made too 'under cover' and then became classified as an 'enclosed public space', meaning that to allow smoking was breaking the law. But as this is largely a universal measure across Europe and other western countries there's no going back. Quitting seemed easier than coping with all the hassle!

There was nothing stopping a pub going non smoking before, but none of them did. it meant we went out less as you had to wear old clothes you wouldnt mind washing coz they stank of smoke and you had to breath in 2nd hand smoke and shorten your own life because a load of nicotine addicts could not get their monkey off their back. All because while they could get smokers and non smokers in landlords didnt care. Generaqlly I am a libertine, but any freedoms I want should not be at the expense of others

its rarely I go to the pub these days, but even though I am a non smoker the times I have been since the smoking ban just seemed really strange, no ashtrays and nice clean air, and yeah not smelling smoke on clothes afterwards.

I do sympathise with smokers though, my other half smokes, how long will it be before they ban alcohol in pubs... ;)

well it's not open to the public anymore so i think it's fine

If employees are still working under lock down there then it's covered under health and safety/ smoking in the work space legislation surely?

BTW, this isn't an argument - I'm trying to work out when a public house is legally not a public house so people can smoke in it!

yeah i know thats fine mate (y)

uhm, not sure, if they host a private party can people smoke?

if they close the pub and entertain friends i know they can.

not sure about smoking in the work space, different thing but people who work on houses and stuff may come accross people smoking indoors in their own home.

really not sure..

The exact limit to the legislation seems a bit smokey and hazy in this context - *boom* *tish*! (sorry!)

Aren't there some weird laws that private member casinos can still allow smoking? Maybe that's what's covering a lockdown?
