General The rallycinq?

Cooeee, I'm here to put you out of your misery.

It started life as a basic 899. No letters after its name, its just a Cinq, first registered 1993.

It has been the subject of several stages of modification and is, yet again, in bits all over the workshop floor.

The shell has a full FIA cage, competition seats, 4 point harnesses. The brakes are vented front, solid rear disc, balance bar pedal box and hydraulic handbrake. All the brake lines are inside, as are the fuel lines.

The suspension is Leda, with adjustable spring pans on the front. The current plan is to build a front subframe and fabricate TCAs with compression struts.

The engine, box, loom etc etc was fitted from a rolled Sporting and another 1108 obtained and rebuilt with new rally cam, vernier, lightened balanced, ported, new pistons, etc etc.

That will be fitted after the subframe is measured up.

Hope this answers some of your questions, anymore, just ask.

Cheers

David

Oops, missed the bit about road legal. Yes it has been road legal and will be again, once we get it back together.

It has been used on many rallies and was the car I used to win the West Of Scotland championship a couple of years ago.

I can't get a competition licence at the moment, due to illness, but my daughter has been given authority by the MSA to use the car for production autotests, so we will continue with the build.

Cheers

Sounds fun David...

I have a few questions of my own:

A> What's a TCA? (I am real stupid at times  )
B> Where did yu source your vernier pulley from?

Track control arm. Like the front bit of the cast wishbone. Strut then goes back, or forward to control position.

I got the pulley from Avanti.

What kind of torque, bhp etc... is that running then?

And what weight?

Must go like sh*t of a stick :D

We have no idea what the bhp and torque will be yet, we have yet to have it running. Likewise it hasn't been on the weighbridge yet. Last time it was weighed it was just under 800 kg.

Have you had any problems with rust with a car that age?

I haven't had any major rust problems, but I have had a few small spots and I'm wondering where my car will be in 5 years time. I've got a bit of rust where my bumper brackets were. The brackets were completely rusty and some has gone through to the car too. I'll need to rub it down ASAP :(

An 899cc -> 1100 conversion sounds like fun :)

Hi Rallycinq,

I have a quick question relating to the brakes.

You have vented at the front, is this with standard callipers or have you changed these to diff ones, if so which, are they raided from the Fiat parts bin or have you gone aftermarket or diff manufacturer then had to get bells, mounting brackets etc made for them? Although I see from your pics that the Cinq wares 14" (at a guess) wheels & therefore are probably limited in what you can fit inside the wheel. I'm running 14" wheels from the Strada Abarth 130TC so have plenty clearance inside the wheel.

The reason I ask is with my turbo cinqs increased performance ,I think a set of vented disc's would be appropriate in aiding the stopping power & if I take it onto the track for a few sessions, hopefully lesson/remove the onset of brake fade.

Cheers Aaron.

rally cinq how is it to convert the 899to sportingi am thinking of buying a cinq sporting and swapping anything is it easy to do the cars will be next to each other just wonderin cos it might be the next thing to do

OK, One at a time.

J333 Evo

The front discs are Uno turbo ones with matching calipers. I machined down the standard sporting front wheel spacer and put them inside the disc as the inset is greater on the Uno disc. This allows the use of 13 inch wheels, which is what I use on the loose.

Ugly Duckling

Remarkably unrusty considering. There was a hole in the offside sill where the wee plastic arch guard was. I have removed all the underseal under the floor pan and there were only one or two rusty spots, but the car has had a battering underneath. I were proper impressed. The rear bumper brackets are a bit rusty, but they are only supporting the bumper, not structural. The front wings were a bit edgy, but the car had been repaired at the front before I got it and the wings were not galvanised. Other than that, nothing to report.

Spudgun

I took the car to a bare shell and it was quite easy to put everything in. The only difference in the shell that I could find was where the nearside front engine mount fits to the inner wing, no hole. I did it because I need a car without a sunroof and a rolled sporting appeared locally at just the right time.

Minislapper
If I get my licence back I would consider Mull, but it is a very specialised event.

Cheers all

David

I have the pleasure of seeing the rallycinq and was sorely tempted to post before David but wanted the horses mouth (expression not literally, although I haven't been over in a while D! LOL) to do the answering.

It is mighty impressive and the insides of that car with a turbo engine and looks of mine outside would have me in Cento heaven.

maybe it should make the trek down to England at a Club event next year for us all to admire ;)

I have ventured to Englandshire before, Stanford a couple of years ago. I will try and get time off to come down for at least one this year, if its finished of course.

Cheers, and thanks for the invite.
