Technical The Ping Of Doom

For the last few months I have had the ASR and ESP failure on Start up (but never after the first start of the day) I have now had a Low Oil Pressure warning message up on Start up this afternoon.

It cleared after a turn off/On and the car is running fine, it came back again after I started the car about 40 mins later and again cleared with a restart and has not been back (I had another restart about an hour and a half after that) Oil is at the correct level on the dip stick and the car seems to be running fine(no other warning lights).

Should I start panicing about Head gaskets or is this a "Go buy a new battery and hope for the best" Situation ?

I have read as many threads as I could on the subject, many which point to the Stilos over sensitive nature , Cars due a service in Feb, should I just wait and see whats happens.

Is your car off warrenty now?

If i were you id wait till after xmas and put it in early for its service in the new year.

Sounds battery related (especially as happens under crank/start) unfortunally it's not easy to be 100% (bar buying a new battery) sure as it involves testing battery under certain conditions (disconnected/temperature/left standing for 5 hours etc) and monitoring voltage at cluster and other modules...(with examiner is best)etc.

I think it maybe the original battery, I think it would be a worth while investment in anycase

I sometimes get the "low oil pressure" one to...only if I have had it running for an hour or more, turn it off then restart pretty soon after??? Goes straight away though

I have only had this one when its been about -5 outside and the car basically gave me every message going

Try charging battery slowly,even better with a pulse charger,theres stuff about it in this thread from way back...

I got that alot in the Summer aswell, i just ignore it when it comes on

I use that spec, in Castrol Magnetec guise - but my dealership uses that as well.

ive had the same sort of problems and it was a loose connect on my battery terminal which was sending the car skits and gave the battery a good charge and never heard a peep since! Worth a try? Im sure fiat recommend selenia, i finks its spelt like that bu i use castrol too...

I took it to the dealers, got it cleared (£66) and they told me they could find no fault with the car. The examiner report showed the engine fault and low oil pressure fault logged on the ECU but they said they coulf find no fault.

So £66 for clearing it and told you nothing wrong so you either ignor it or pay up and if you choose to ignore and your engine goes bang Oh say no more Im a nervious wreck just thinking about anyone know if independant garages can carry out this procedure ?

No you go to another dealer,one that is aware of this problem (and are aware of service news bulletins on this....something independant garages have no access to) & the 3 or 4 possible faults that make this message appear.

I have also started to get this happening on my 2004 1.6 dynamic.
I get an intermittant low oil pressure warning on startup sometimes.
Is there a deffinative cure for this?hopefully one that won't involve me going to a dealer.
I wouldn't have thought the battery is at fult on my car as the car is only about 18 months old.

If your car is only 18months old its under warranty!

Yes there is a 'magic' cure,take it to a good dealer(see my last post)

guys I have been onto Fiat and several dealers for 2 years with the fault messages and I've given up. I've had a new fuel pump (fuel level sensor fault), new instrument panel (low oil pressure, fuel level sensor, engine fault etc etc), ECU software update last week (I know this now didn't work as I got fuel level sensor fault again today. Fiat technical were even involved. The car's now out of warranty and I've simply given up.

I accept that the dealer is garbage (but they have been a dealer for about 15 years and I figure, rightly or wrongly, if they don't know then no one will). The car runs fine as far as I can tell so I don't invest the time or money in pursuing it now. However, if I was still under warranty I would and would encourage you to do it as well as there must be a solution out there.
