General The Adventures of the 'Other' Unwanted 750....

With the words "just take the bloody thing" from Jim and a 70 mph dash down the motorway the "other" 750 is safely home at East Belfast's most proficient used Fiat car lot.

It's a hoot to drive, there are a couple of little jobs to do, like finish putting it together! It definitely needs rear shock absorbers (eBay). I actually quite like the seats, they're a breath of fresh air after the back breakers in Splutter.

It runs pretty well, I think a new vacuum advance would improve things a bit though, it's sluggish when pulling off and pulls a bit.

The wheel arch covers 'might' be coming off, not sure yet if I like them, the rear spoiler is definitely coming off! :yuck:

Edit - Oh yeah, it had alloys on it, Jim fitted them to Sylvia.

I played around with alloys on my black Panda and decided that alloys and Pandas don't go. Having said that, Sam's Panda looks well, but I prefer the utiltarian look.

Chris, the spoiler is yours if and when I remove it.

I think 34bhp makes it sluggish when pulling off!
Russ says that his does that (750's) and I tried the advance and the bellows inside are airtight and I've the timing spot on (it's 5d TDC instead of 2dTDC)

Think it's just a thing about them weird little engines.

Anybody got a second opinion? (or third, or fourth?)

And yeah, it's all green under the bonnet

Oh yeah, and you like Sylvia's Alloys too? Don't you???

BTW, I've just worked out that we've swapped cars!

I know, that's bloody obvious, but I never thought of it till now, lol

Yep, Splutter won't pull when he's cold either and he's very easy to flood too...

(remember "Worst 90 seconds of my life" on Thursday when I created traffic mayhem )

Thou maybe a thermostat will help Lloyd as he never gets more than a quarter round the temp gauge (well, you might find he gets higher in Belfast traffic) as he'd warm up a bit quicker. I also checked the flap in the airbox and it's working ok too...

They don't fit unless you take off the side trims and they're going to be needed on the boat to protect our lady from shifting cargo etc!

My 750 drives REALLY well as soon as it is warm and the choke goes in. I would just love a 1.1 with automatic choke!!!

Nippy to a point but there is just no hiding the 34 bhp - I generally drive on my own but obviously adding passengers worsens performance!

It's an ideal town car, even stuck in traffic (something I no longer dread since I sorted my thermostatic switch!) you know that you are using the absolute minimum of petrol.

(but I still crave a 999 or a 1.1 with sunshine roof!)

Russ, if you see a 999cc with fuel injection in good nick buy it, they're a world apart from the old carbed Pandas. I've never quite got over selling my 999cc fuel injected CLX, I think that's why I've gone through so many Pandas, none of them measure up. I've no idea how long this one will last...

If I found a nice one then the 750 would have to go as I cannot afford to run two second cars (not even Pandas). I'm absolutely smitten with these cute little cars and find myself wanting to save even the worst examples!!!

Well I was looking forward to spending a few hours today washing and waxing Lloyd, but it's been raining all day.

So I settled for fitting the back seats in place properly and fitting the little bits of trim that Jim was too lazy to replace.

I also removed the rear spoiler. It was just bolted in place through two holes drilled in the bootlid. When I removed it I blanked the holes with a couple nuts and bolts until I find a suitable rubber bung. Any suggestions? It's also left a horrible silicon residue which is proving hard to shift. The car looks much better with no spoiler. Chris, if you want it pm me and we'll arrange to get it to you.
