Well i'm sure you'll agree that I'm hoping that is not the case! Got me a replacement alternator today. It's a bit wet so it's in the airing cupboard and the hair dryer will be out later!lol

update, alternator changed and working fine. Car still f**ked

I've discovered it only cuts out if it's been running at high revs (over 3500rpm) and then i come off the gas. There's a distinct rattling coming from the throttle body too that has been getting worse for a while. Punto 60 throttle body on next methinks!

And yes, my garage is full of working parts that have been taken off!lol

Could anyone offer you another ecu to try?

I'm unsure of the problems that could arrive due to immobiliser but it's worth a shot.

glad i didn't change the ECU, the car's running fine now.

want to know what solved it?! After spending all that cash on replacement parts (most were second hand, which was a bonus) and gettting everyone confused it turned out to be so daft i need a good kicking:

I took off, cleaned and re-attatched the one thing i didn't think could cause such a ballache......the friggin crank sensor[V]

Big thanks to Kev (bravo_owd_chap) for suggesting it. I think i'll get a new one just in case mines shagged.

So now ya know!lol

where an what is the crank sensor, mine cut out a few times today, so it mite be worth me having a look before running to the garage

take the drivers side wheel off, all the arch liner out and it's the black thing that points to the crank wheel. On the opposite side from the alternator. make sure the gap is the right distance and clean it up if you can.

worked for me. I'm not holding my breath yet though
