Hi 2 all!

It seems I have problem with thermostat...
Engine temperature gauge takes a long time to reach "normal" if at all... (it reaches only second line)
How does this effect engine life? I think it is not a good thing to keep engine temp low... how about fuel consumption?
I think fault is in always open thermostat. Can anyone tell me where to find it/how to check it on 1.8 16v hlx Marea Weekend?

T.

The guage sensor is separate from the ECU temp sensor and the water divert thermostat.

A quick way to check the thermostat is to run engine from cold and check the temp of the water hoses. If the radiator hose slowly gets warm then hot it is likely that the thermostat is stuck open. If it stays cool and then gets hot quickly after a few mins then its likely ok.

Temp sensors are harder to check without an ohm meter and a temp chart. If you have not flushed and cleaned your water system for a while that may help.

Check your plugs, if they are showing signs of running rich then your ECU temp sensor could be faulty. Otherwise its just your pref as to whether you want to replace the guage sensor.

I think the thermostat is on the right of the engine block on the 1.8. The temp sensors are usually on the thermostat body.

Suggest that you check the wire going to the temp. gauge on the top of the
engine, I started to have the same problem last winter, but found that the coolant was warm ( bye the way also use Fiat Paraflu or similar product with the recommended amount of water as it inhibits reactions between the different metals used in the engine and gaskets, also do not top up with just water always use a mixture of water and fluid). To go back to the question,
I found that the Spade connection on the end of the wire and the connection were both corroded, thereby causing resistance, after cleaning both, the Temp gauge worked normally.
