I shouldn't drive the missus' car.. keeps me in blissful ignorance... :D but while Gerrard is off-sick, waiting for parts to get through the MOT, I'm out in Rasputin.

I've noticed an oddness with the engine temperature light. When the ignition is on, the light glows very faintly. When the console powers off, the light goes out completely.

Mechanically, the car runs fine and works like Fiat intended .. warms up quickly then stays planted to mid-temp'... so I'm sure this is just an electrical/earthing thing.

As an aside, the battery is in "great" condition and you wouldn't know there was anything wrong with it if the car was not a Stop-Starter. The beast's S&S doesn't cut the engine, so I guess the battery is either not as 100% as it seems, or it could be the wrong spec' (betteries for a S&S are more expensive and the previous owner(s) do seem to have scrimped in a few places).

But the battery isn't an issue, unless it's related. Has anyone fixed similar glowy light?

I wonder if it's similar to what happened in some Seicentos where the temp sensor was replaced with one from a Cinq. Because the Sei doesn't have a gauge, the "oh crap" light was either on or off, but if you switched out the sensor for a Cinq one the light acted like a gauge, getting brighter as the engine warmed up.

Could be... :)

The light illuminates to a particular intensity that is faint enough that it's not noticeable in daylight.. but you can clearly see a glow when it's dark.

I haven't noticed that it gets brighter as the temperature increases - I'll have a look - but my impression is that it comes on at a particular level of "glow" and stays consistent, even if the engine is cold.

As a yeardstick..

The Evo dash in puntos can do similar..

Obvious at night.. invisible by day

Not causing any issues.. and cars had no work done to cause it.

( you still around NP?)

Aye!

This weekend, I swear blind the glow was completely absent; I couldn't see it, even if I cupped my hand over the console.... but then later on, I noticed it very faintly again. :D

It's more noticeable when the lights are on, which at first I thought might be light from the console illumination leaking into the temperature light.. but then when it's not glowing (which occasionally it doesn't) I can't see it, so I think the glow is genuine.

I'll give the temperature sender on the thermostat a clean in due course. Is there another temperature sensor/sender anywhere else (on the head, or radiatore etc.)? It's obviously not a real problem, so I'm otherwise going to chill with it.. :D
