Technical Temp Gauge

Hi, I have a motor home based on a 06 Fiat ducato 2.8td. (Plus I am a newbie)The temperature gauge goes stright to the normal postion as soon as you turn the ingnition on, even though the engine is cold. Could this be a sensor problem, and if so where would I find it, or could it be dashboard problem? Any idea's on how to test the sensor and how the system works etc. would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help. WS

If thermostat stuck open the sender may indicate normal temperature.

Thanks Corkman for your info and link. It seems to coming down on the side of disconnecting the wiring from the panel as a good place to start. Thanks again. WS
