You know the ones, the little casette-shaped things which you stick in your tape deck and plug the wire into a CD/MD/MP3 player so you can hear it through a car stereo.

Does anyone know if these are any good? i.e. do they actually work/sound decent? I want one for the Capri so I can play my MD walkman through its stereo. The tape deck motor is buggered (it plays but v. slowly, heads seem OK). It's the original custom-fit Ford rad/cass, which I'd like to leave in as the dash has to be cut to accommodate a standard-size head unit.

There's one of these adaptors on ebay, £3.75 plus £1.44 delivered, reckon its worth it? :)

form the one i used months back, i can say that they are quite good, i cant REALLY tell you what the bass etc was like as it was in a Minibus, but the range of sound was good (if you get what i mean  )

Arc, that gadget looks well nifty :D but 40 squid is a bit more than this skint student can spare at the mo! ;)
It doesn't matter if it gets stuck in the HU as the thing's no good for playing tapes anyway. Besides, I'm never going to get great quality from an 18-year-old factory-fit Ford stereo and speakers! So long as it's listenable (the radio in the Capri doesn't sound bad considering its age) then I'll be happy.

Sod it. For a few pennies over a Lady Godiver, can't really go wrong! :)

I got a FM trans for £7 on ebay, made my own case etc. and it was fine although the ease of use of a tape deck is much higher as you don't have to use batteries/PSU for the unit.

I use one of these to hook up my MP3 player in the car and it's fine. You're not really losing quality because most MP3s are encoded at a fairly low quality anyway, would only really lose out if you were playing a CD from a very high quality CD player which in this case is unlikely.

I used to use one to hook up my mp3 player to my stilo before i got some different wire adapter things. Theyre actually quite good and the sound was fine and it didnt really sound like a tape at all. For £5 id go for it

Jonny. I'd hold out for a cheaper one! I got one off ebay for 99p with free postage, it's great, sound quality seems as good as the cd player itself. So yes they're good.

D'oh! Just paid £5.74 for the convenience of that one on "buy it now". Oh well. It's only 3 pints' difference I spose

Don't worry I'm sure it's not normal to get that price, I think it was a mistake to be honest that he put £0 for postage.

One thing I have done with ebay is get a cheap MP3 player (which I use with the adaptor). Try searching for stuff spelt wrong, eg adapter not adaptor, people don't notice it and you get it cheap. anyway you can't argue with £5 and if it's like mine it works great.

Richard I always do the same if something can be spelt like that by idiots...sometimes save a great deal!

Heh, gonna try that trick, I killed my laptop's screen just now :( (connector is borken, strange burning smell too, machine still works with a monitor though. This has NOT been a good week.) so think I'll search "loptap", "laptpo" etc on ebay ;)
