Technical Tacho on a Punto 55S???????

Hi there, just wondering if its possible to fit a tacho onto a P-reg 55S? I've got one from Halfords and i am looking for the ignition coil.

you don't have a round ignition coil, but 2 coil packs there are on the right of engine follow the plug leads and you will find them. I dont know how to wire angthing to it though.

Spirito di Punto | M-reg 55SX, black, 5dr. Clear repeaters. Remote locking fitted, no light confirmation yet though - need relay fitted

If you get a Instrument set from a written off 60s with a tacho it fits perfectly. Wires up which means there no use for a external tacho.

i've already got the tacho and mounting and it looks pretty good so i'll stick with it. not got round to fitting it yet but if mad_colm is right then i'll be a happy man. apparently it might be a bit tricky to fit because of the punto's dual coil pack so if anyone has any suggestions i'll be most grateful to you.

You'll need to tap into one of the coil's neg terminals for the pulse to drive the tacho. Look for the 2 small plugs on the coils.

Problem is, as it's a 2 coil system, it may read half revs if it's set up for a 4 cylinder car.

if thats the case then u can soon fix that with use of an amplifier chip and setting up the resistors to amp it to double the voltage, i'll have a read through em old electronics books and see how to do it, btw this chip costs meer pennys, so not really expensive job!

If you could find out that would be great, thanks. I read somewhere else that you could wire it to the blue wire coming off the ECU but I couldn't get that to work.
