General swiching engine

i have punto I 55s with i think 1100cc because on my ECU is a label with 1.2 mark. i wonder which stonger engine i can put in my chassis? what is range of engines that can fit? oh and another does shift knob just screw off or somehow else?,because i can`t get it off
