Technical Suspension Time

Right then, a suspension modding weekend is looming. Got new track rod ends and lower arms to tighten things up, but would like the benefit of everyone's wisdom on lowering my Sei Sporting. Want to retain a little ride quality and am more interested in handling feel than looks. Quite like the sound of the Apex -30mm kit, anyone tried it? If not what makes do you recommend.

If you don't want a hard ride, stay with standard shocks and just change the springs. I wouldn't recommend lowering more than 40mm as there isn't enough suspension travel left after that.

If you change the shocks too, it will firm up the ride, and fitting an Eibach or Novitec front anti roll bar will reduce the body roll quite a lot.

Eibach - the best for good road use and dont lower too much ~20mm and are the best progressive springs I have tried (done spax, pi, jamex aswell)

Cheers guys, you may have saved me a few quid there, I was under the impression that it was wise to match the springs/shocks? So the existing shocks will be up to the job then?

Uprated bump stops worthwhile while i'm in there?

They will work, and give a softer ride than uprated shocks. Downside is that it will be easier to hit the bump stops, as uprated shocks will offer more resistance to movement. I ran 40mm lower on standard shocks for ages, and never really had a problem.

Agreed. Mine's -50mm now, Gmax shocks and Spax springs, and it's too low really. You can smack the (chopped) bump stops quite hard on country lane blasts (with just 10st me in) and I can't park up on the kerb in most places as the sump catches.B)

With the anti roll bar, strut brace, 175's and the spring/shox combo I have now it handles like a go-kart. It's stunning!

yes, but you need to buy 2 small brackets from Fiat where the main bushes bolt down.

i know it sounds dumb, but the anti rool bar goes on the back dont it? or can you get them for the front aswell? i know where the strut brace goes, and what its uses are. is it just a case of bolting the the anti roll bar straight on then? has it got to be a sx anti roll bar or does any cinq bar fit?

the anti roll bar is on the front mate some cars have front and back but ours only have front
correct me someone if im wrong but i dont think they did an anti roll bar for the s or sx only the sporting so it will have to be that one, or you can get an uprated one from eibach or hormann or i think novitec do them as well?? but they are like 130ish i think

oops - if you're fitting it to an S or SX you'll need the brackets which go on each end to attach them to the front arms too.:I

BTW, uprated bars are worth the cash.

Yes and yes. Just need the brackets, best to go to a scrapyard and get the whole hog.
