Got a small problem with the sunroof on my 2001 Sei.

I noticed that the sunroof doesn't quite close properly - isn't leaking which is the good news, but with enough rain - or indeed snow, then no doubt my seats would end up very wet.

Tried to figure out why this is happening, and it seems to be that there is a little clip thing that is getting stuck.
Anyway, to cut a long story short - I tried to work out how to remove the sunroof (and I did do a search on here 1st), but I'm really lost.

Is there a simple way to do this? - if so... How?

:bang:

I guess you mean release the glass. In the centre of the thumb wheel, is a screw, when the roof is closed, take a small screwdriver and turn, think it is only half a turn, then open the sunroof and release the clip at the rear. The sunroof should then tilt forward, and lift out. I have only read this in the owners manual, I have never tried it. My sunroof does not completely sit flat, it whistles in a cross wind. Let us know if you fix it, I will probably have to do the same.

thanks for the tip racingsnake - don't suppose you have any idea what this clip at the rear is like?
There appear to be two clips on there, but it's too dark to be messing about with crap like that at the mo... will dig out my owners manual and give it a whirl again in the morning :D

i had to take mine back to get my sunroof re-sealed round the out sides as it leaked.

good job i took out that extra 3 year warrenty when i baught the car (y)

hmmm, tried to carry out the procedure as per the owners manual:

But I don't seem to be getting anywhere with this.

Fiat's instructions are so vague, and it's not a procedure I'm remotely familiar with as I've always worked on cars that have no sunroof :p

According to the instructions, the catch to the left of the sunroof mechanism (if viewed from the rear of the car), should be the gizmo that releases the glass - mine doesn't seem to do very much at all - and in fact I suspect that it's this little thingy that is causing the sunroof not to close 100%.
Could my lever thingy be broken?

Let's just analyse those instructions a bit closer...

"With the sunroof closed: Insert a screwdriver in the central hole A on knob B and turn the fastening pin by half a turn;"

Ok:- half a turn? see mine only wants to move 90 degrees, and where I come from that's quarter of a turn...
Then what happens? do we keep the screwdriver there while we open it?...

"With the sunroof open: free the sunroof by operating tab D-fig.61 located next to the pin."

Operate tab D??? operate it how? what is the correct way to operate it?
What pin???

ARRRRRRRRRRGHHHHHHH!!!!!!

Going to have one more attempt at it while I wait to wax the car...

:bang:

dont have too be screw driver i use the key turn the little silver bit in the middle of the thumb wheel when the little screw gets to its limit push the sun roof up with ur hand should just pop out

This is covered in the cento guides, when i removed mine
i twisted the small screw a quarter turn with a penny the pushed
the glass up by hand then lifted that fiddly little catch and the
glass was free

methinks my sunroof is knackered proper then :p

....yet another thing to add to the "fix me" list :(

I know this might sound daft, but that guide you posted says optional removable sunroof. Are you sure that yours is removable?

they all come out afaik.

.....

close the sunroof, turn the metal screw, and give the sunroof a gentle wack. If it lifts up then you haev turned the screw the correct way. If it doesn't budge turn the screw the other way, and give it a whack.

Once you've done this, raise the roof to its maximum opening, the galss will lift up higher than normal now

look on the right hand side of the lifter when looking towards the rear of the car (passenger side for uk models)

there will be a little latch

pull up or down (can't remember) and the glass will lift right out.

theres nothing really to break with this mechanism to be honest.

Sure I have posted this several times before in various forms :p

Cheers for the breakdown there Kristian - will give it another go soon, and report back with results (y)

Cheeky bugger!

I'm scared to cause any damage, after all the problems Ive had to put right with this car, the last thing I need is to have to replace the sunroof :p

i got up this morning to find a wet patch on my seat so im off to try removing mine. ill take some fotos and let you know how i get on.

bad news mate - but photos would be great (y)

Gonna set about doing mine when I get back from work tomorrow afternoon :)

right **** easy two second job! turn the little screw, mine seemed to do a 1/3 of a turn either way. then wind the window up so its fully open. now from the outside of the car you will notice the glass is a little looser than normal.

now theres two parts to this clip one on the glass - can just see the hook thing in middle of picture

and one on the winding mechanism

the way i did it was move the little hook part so that fully disengages and then pull on the latch firmly and it pops the window out of the mechanism.

seems like the little hook on the window is like a safety catch to stop it coming undone. possibly why you cant move your catch.

hope this helps

great pics mate - tried this exactly as you described, but my clip thing (the first one that you describe), doesn't appear to be clipped on to anything, and nothing happens when I did what you describe.

Might try the brute force method and your way once more tomorrow, but I'm quickly running outta options :(

i actually opened it the first time by just hitting it from the inside and then discovered the clip things.

Success!! (y)

Took another look at my sei today
Got her top off eventually - just needed a bit of a beating to get it off :p

Didn't really solve the issue though - my sunroof still seems to stick slightly proud of the metal roof panel, so I guess it's off to the scrappers to see if I can't find me a new sunroof & raise/lower assembly :yum:
Thinking I might tint the new sunroof before I put it on (y)

how proud does it sit? Mine sits about 2mm higher at the rear center of the glass, as its been like that from new.
