hey, i dunno if ne one can help me, I installed a sub and amp at the weekend. It all works but sumtimes there is a real loud crackling sound that is herd through the sub, also if I switch on my lights, shut my door, hit my steeringwheel, the sounds go through the sub. Does ne one no what this could be caused by. I thought it could be the earth but i've changed the earth points, its now earthed under the hinge that is conected to the back seats and the paint has been scraped off to the metal. I've got an S plate 60s punto. I would apriciate if someone could help me, thanx.

are the speaker and powerleads running down the same side of the car, if they are thats a likely cause

what type of speaker wire are you using?

check the earth again make sure it is only touching metal, not anything else

The powerleads and other cables are on seperate sides of the car. The bottom of the earth lead is on the bare metal underneith the seat hinge but the top part is touching the hinge. Would this make a difference? I dunno what cables I have but they all came thogther in a package.

has anyone got any pictures of where you have ground your amp in a punto?

Theres most likely a grounding point near one of the rear lights (on the inside).
In the uno its on the left hand side (if you're lookin into the boot). Should be a bolt about 12 mm, all you need to do is undo and put an eyelet on your amp grounding wire, stick it over the bolt then tighten up. Job done :)

Just make sure all the other wires that are grounded there are on the bolt too

hey, I ground the earth cable to that blot in the back of the boot, my sub still grumbles and i can still hear my engine and other stuff through it. :(

I don't know the answer here but we used to put capacitors across radios and motors etc as supressors to stop clicks and so on.......is this what the power caps you can buy will do?

The caps just smooth the peaks and troughs in the power from the battery, and gives a continuous power feed to the amp at all times to the bass notes are alot more crisp. Yes it would clean out distortion from the power.

But, IMO, the overall problem isnt actually a grounding issue. If you're getting feedback into the amp then its probably the RCA feed thats getting contaminated. Which means you may need a thicker more insulated RCA cable (mines grounded too) and run it through an alternate path to the boot.
