Why does my computer only want to save pictures in .bmp format when they are jpegs that that I am saving

Is this when Saving from the Internet?

It happens sometimes, think its depends on the site.

yes from internet, but it keeps doing it on lots of sites, and same sites it would save as a jpeg from the other night!

so on the box underneath the file name just has the option to save it as bitmap? and i think if you have a look at IE settings i think you can change picture formats settings etc from there

Yeah only has bitmap option even tough the pictures are jpegs, shall have a root in the settings but I haven't changed them before and it didn't do this.

It has happend to me, as long as the file sizes aren't massive I wouldn't worry about it.

I have never come accross that before, and you say it happens on all sites?

What is your default picture viewer?

Whatever the Windows picture viewer is, but I think that's not the problem. All sites I have tried with jpegs, it'll do gifs no problem

I have the same problem sometimes. Only option it gives you is to save as .bmp If it's a big file, you can alway whack it into an image program and re-save as a .jpg

another cause is that the file its self is corrupted MSIE can understand the file but refuses to save it once viewed as corrupted.

Can't be that 20 or so files in a row are corrupted, surely not.

might be due to a firewall doing somthing odd... on this one though the KB is probablly the thing that's broken..
