Hi guys,

I've recently been having a problem with my 1.1sx p reg. It seems that everytime im driving along and i need to stop, at say traffic lights, you need to put your clutch down. but when i do this the car suddenly loses it revs and starts shaking violently, sometimes it even stalls completely. The mystery is that it only happens some days and not others. The weather conditions also seem to have no effect on the performance, so iguess this rules out the plugs and leads.

any help would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

Danny

Could this be the same distributor/vaccuum advance unit problem that affects the 999c Uno i.e?

Hmmm, my 1.2 MK2 punto shakes violently when I start the engine, but after a while it settles down, sometimes after a few seconds other times after a few minutes, but it only does it when i start the engine not if i have to stop at lights. If i drive it straight away i notice that it is quite jumpy for a little while. Any ideas?

Do you mean revs a lot or actually shakes? In either case it's most probably because it's cold, nothing to worry about probably. No engine is ever entirely settled until it's warmed up. Mine's so noisy when it starts on a winter morning it sounds like a diesel!

As for the original thread problem well the revs should fall away when you put the clutch down, but it sounds like it's going too far. The engine idle might be set too low. As you have an SX check the rev counter. Anything below 800 when it's idle is too low, I think, been a while since I checked the figures but definitely something like 800. I think I'm right in saying this is an ECU thing, which would certainly explain the randomness as those things are the most random part on a car in my experience.

My car actually shakes, its not like normal engine movement, if you look at the passenger seat you can see it really vibrating.

Weird. Is it also trying to stall? If so look to my post above though I have no experience of mk2's so could not say for sure.

cheers for all the replies, could the problem be something to do with the timing. I know its definately not the plugs, leads or coils as i have changed the plugs and leads, only a couple of months ago, and there is no problem with the coils. There has been no problem up until now.
