I have to cycle down one of the main routes in and out of manc - upper brook street and anson road for anybody that knows it, similar to the famous Oxford Road. It's a nightmare and I don't have a helmet therefore so stupid (cycling on pavements is a £30 fine in Manc and really frowned upon).

However, so far I haven't had any problems. Today was different and it really pissed me off because there was no need. I was cycling up, not too far from the end of it and there was a car parked on double yellows, I checked behind and started to move out very early. An old volvo then accelerated needlessly (there was a traffic jam up to the lights beyond the car and pulled up along side of the car on double yellows. Guess what? yes, despite him knowing I was there (or being blind) he hadn't left me enough room to safely cycle between the parked car and his car. Therefore when I got to the gap i put me feet down and was careful between the cars. When I had got through I was just getting ready to cycle down the rest of the traffic up to the lights (who had all left large gaps) and he tooted me! I turned around and he made a gesture with his finger at me, gobsmacked i just shrugged.

Please somebody tell me what I had done wrong??

lol

Volvo drivers are usually like that, they think teyre driving tanks, whilst getting poor Tarquin to kindergarten. theyre almost as bad SUV drivers

A little while ago, i was almost knoked off my bike by a BSM Corsa!!,

luckily he/she/it? swerved and t-boned a Rover 25, which then went on it side and got pushed onto the pavement.

luckily noone was hurt, as it wasnt that fast.

im also pretty sure im the holder of the SLOWEST bike/car accident.

Well sure, if i had cycled on the pavement, kept cycling down the gap despite it being a bit too tight or made contact with either cars whilst pushing through then I can understand but I did the sensible thing and controlled going through in slow motion to prevent damage....After all, did he expect me to sit in traffic 30m back from the lights?! **** :D

Mase; I am trying to prevent escalating anything like this these days, it's too dangerous - especially in a new city i don't know where to hide!

What's happened to your Uno?

sold it - he is a skint studie now

paul its manchester - youll get used to it - i avoid driving round there as much as i can, pedestrians are the worst for me - i could quite happily carry a bat around with me and smack anyone aound the knees for just walking infront of my car and not bother looking:(

Yes Charlotte, i've got an ensuite but no car....(the en-suite is about an extra 1k or there abouts it seems (the rest of the room is better etc. but ignoring that)) which would have been what it would have cost me to run, I didn't think about that until a few days ago....

I am actually glad I don't have my car, Nottingham is so car friendly compared to this place, it's like one big traffic jam!

I just went to ikea and on the way a truck got too close to a man cycling on the road (the man was quite old) and he fell off his bike. No one stopped to help or even ask if he was okay until my mum got there (about 10 cars back) and she made sure he was okay.

Doesnt anyone care about anything than themselves these days :( :p

I do, sometimes too much, but i definitely try to, I would have stopped immediately even if it was me who had caused it by accident.

I agree though, everybody is too selfish.

lol i laughed for a few mins after reading that till i realised how inhumane i was being! bless him.

yeah i guess it is kinda funny to read but it wasnt at th time :(

The poor man was going to get squashed the truck was so close! He was either blind or stupid.

Where possible I would try to give at least half of what I would give a car aslong as it didn't cause danger, in town i'd rather wait 5 mins behind it rather than going too close. Now I am not receiving the same kind gesture.

Cycling around london, I have found the best way to anoy motorists, and thus get the room I need is to ride right in the middle of the lane when approaching parked cars, and traffic islands... so long as you are in front of them, you have right of way, and if they damage you in any way, you can sue them. Also make sure you hold your ground, if they have to swerve on the other side of the road to get around you then it's their problem, if they cause an accident either knocking you off or with another car, it's their fault no questions. Also make sure you position yourself with the rest of the traffic well in advance of the obsticle to give the drivers around you the best possible chance [of hitting you] of getting out of the way.... Remember your hand signals one and two fingers, the ****** sign, and if they're stopped at traffic lights, remember to shout abuse at their elderly ralatives in the car!

Hope this helps... :)

edit - ****** has been sensored out!!! how unfair.
