Twice in the last month i have seen two children roughly 7-12 run into the road when i am turning a corner

Once while the mother was stood near the child, i have no idea why she wasnt holding his hand!

Second was this evening on the way back from dropping missues dad off home. So i am coming up to traffice lights, I indicate left, seen some lad holds back from running across the road. Then at the last minute as i am turning decided it was a good idea to shoot. Luckily i was ready for him and i had an idea what he was upto but didnt think he was going to do it.

Just really annoys me how brain dead some kids can be  i have a littlen on the way, i just hope i teach her some common sense!

oh and sorry to the person in the seicento who probably thought i was giving them abuse for no reason when really shouting to this kid while running off (n)

You have to be a bit easier on the kids - sure it's dangerous but they don't perceive cars in the same way as someone who has driven does. It's quite amazing the first time you realise just how hard it is to see people at night, and how you soil your pants when someone steps towards your car.

They just don't see cars as a deadly weapon - they see them as something that has always stopped to let them cross the road.

The best is when they do it when its snowed or icy. Some kids decided they were going to do it to me a couple of weeks just after I passed my test in the panda which i'd also not long owned. It werent funny at the time when I kept going as no grip and their little eyes widened.

I purposely avoid roads near schools when they are all coming out, I got fed up of them trying to get under my wheels. :(

To add my two pennyworth I would strongly advise against playing bumper cars with kids (n)

I had the misfortune to have a kid run out from a bus queue in front of me when I had my bike. I floored and felt awful when I found out what had happened (yes it was two quick to do anything)

I had witnesses that clearly stated (when they were over their shock) that I was not to blame and the police did not go beyond interviewing me.

The kid's parents did not blame me and he even admitted it was his fault.

Thankfully he was not badly hurt, I still don't know how I rode the 40 mile home such was the shock I was in.

This happened 30 years ago but the memory never leaves you, more it haunts you.

Which to me is what the main problem is. Many kids today think that any car will stop for them if they step a foot in the road, which is completely the wrong attitude to have. When I was a kid we had "Tufty Club" and road safety classes that drummed into our heads how dangerous the roads were and to respect them.

Current laws are stupid when they make pedestrians feel invincible crossing the road. At a designated crossing yes, pedestrians should have the right of way. No crossing, cars have right of way. And never the twain shall meet and god forbid any car or pedestrian who doesn't know the difference.

Oh, and about time many parents today taught their own kids proper road safety and awareness rather than letting the little brats run amok. Grrrrr!

i was in tufty club, no wonder we all cant cross the road properly squirrels taught us, you see them squished all the time

where all the red ones gone then? yeah got squished see, an people blamed the grey ones

Nah, they saw all the grey squirrels playing suicide in the road and thought "bugger this, let's all move to Scotland away from these idiots". And they did ;)

"Although not thought to be under any threat worldwide, the red squirrel has drastically reduced in number in the United Kingdom. Fewer than 140,000 individuals are thought to be left[7], approximately 85% of which are in Scotland."

They probably all live with Custard and Venters now! :p

I totally agree with pedestrians having the right of way and will go by that. BUT... not when they are being numb and cant be bothered waiting or pushing the crossing button before legging it across the road. He knew i was coming as he looked and stopped. I have lights and indicators!

what if i was all the way round the corner and i didnt have time to stop and he ran out. My fault then?? In some cases to much responsibility is left on drivers. But dont take that the statement the wrong way

I hate to say I was one of those kids. It wasn't a corner but it happend. The driver was so peeved at me she stopped to give me some lip.

The next day at scholl the headmaster was talking about some kid from our school actually run over ?

Never spoke of it again.

Oh for the record, the squirrels squashed in Scotland are mostly grey ones. The red ones actually get out of your way. The Highland ones in particular.

It does bother me however that most of the gits just cross without even looking, have to use the horn sometimes before going round because of their damn music boxes.

The thing that annoys me is when cyclists ride on the road when there's a perfectly good cycle path just metres away. I know what they're doing is legal but it's still stupid and dangerous.
