I can't believe it.. I phoned my dealer today to get an update on our 500, which I ordered in early June and he said that it will be built at the end of August, with an expected delivery date of end of September, however when we ordered he said we would have it at the begining of September!.. :bang: Does that seem like a long waiting time?? I can't believe that the car won't even be built until end of August!! (n)

We ordered a 1.2 Pop in BNW with red and white seats, and split rears and air con and chrome pack. I thought for a basic spec like that, it wouldn't take long at all. Is there anyway of making the process speed up?

Not that I know of I'm afraid, some of the 'older' members may know. They may have had some experience with your dealer...
Will keep my fingers crossed for you. Did he give you a status code? My dealer didn't even know what one was, so he could be wrong with my estimate too...

I would think late Sept is doing well.

Couple of things to consider

Scrappage means that there are more 500's to be built, the factory shuts down for a few weeks in the summer, the 500c is coming out which means even more load on Tychy and there is also a new plate due out at the end of sept so that's another reason why people are ordering.

I waited 10 and a half weeks and I ordered as soon as the scrappage scheme was finalised so I think your ETA is probably sadly rather accurate.

AFAIK differences in spec don't slow down the order really. Regardless of whether you have leather or basic seats, split fold or solid rear seats or steelies or alloys they still have to bold the bits in.

Would that be BOLT the bits in or MOULD the bits in?

I work for a Dealership so I know that some things are out of your control. A problem with many salesman is the lack of communication with their customers.

I know, unfortunately my dealer has not rung once! I don't think it's much to ask to be updated once a fortnight. I guess I am just getting impatient..

I've had entirely the opposite situation. I had nothing but smiles and happiness and weekly updates from my salesman. It's the after sales service and dealing with other dealers for parts that's been a less than happy experience.

Also, as you work for a dealer, can you ask Fiat for a very concise definition of 'over-rev' please. And ask them how many times an engine over-rev's before they invalidate the warranty on engines/gearboxes?

I'm not being snide here. I genuinely want to know what the Fiat official position is because it's happened to a fair number of people and dealers don't seem to be able to accurately articulate what it means and under what parameters it's applied to judge the merits of a warranty claim.

Sorry, thread hijack over. To answer the OP question, the dealers don't know the finer points of the factory schedule. They can only put the orders in. If they were building it out the back of the showroom and they told you 6 weeks and then said 12 weeks you'd have every right to be angry. But they're just placing orders. Someone else is making them. Parts, shipping, imports, distribution, all these things come into play. They make every effort to be accurate but some things are beyond their control.

12-14 weeks is a standard wait time.

Personally I wouldn't want a fortnightly update - as most of the time there would be nothing new to be told!

I can't imagine the process can be sped up as it is a production line and they won't be able to find your car and jump the queue and if you think about it,everyone would want that it if were possible and then where would we end up!!

I agree the dealer may have mislead you to believe you may get it early, but that only makes him optimistic, not stupid!! and you never know it may come early, ours did, we were expecting early January and it came early December (y)

:yeahthat:

Your right, It just seems a lot of people here seem to have shorter delivery times and I was hoping I would be one of them.

I've been told a 12 week wait, my saleman said some orders had come in a bit sooner so it possibly may be quicker but I was expecting 12 weeks anyway and if it's sooner, yippee! If not, oh well.
Only phone call I was told I would get would be 2 weeks prior to delivery to sign paperwork and get my numberplate to sort insurance and then the call to say it's there. Roll on October :)
