I have noticed a light appearing on my MK1 Punto 75 ELX dash every time I hit the brakes. Front discs and pads are fine and I have not noticed any difference in braking performance or funny sounds when I brake. It seems to do this for 10 minutes then disappears for a day or so. This is not in the Fiat Punto handbook that came with the car.

Anyone know what it is? I have done about 700 miles since this first happened and there has been no change in performance or economy.

I thought that might be it and I have had someone look at the back while I pressed the brake pedal but no difference. Unless it is some obscure light somewhere that you wouldn't notice if it was out or not...

I'm pretty sure the light was on. Shortly I will have a look with all the lights on and have someone test the brake pedal while I check the lights.

Ok so it does appear that my offside brake light is not working. The bulb seems fine (I have have it out and checked all connections and such inside) and all my fuses are fine. Still occurring. It seems it may be one of those electrical problems where I will never find the cause unfortunately.

Clean the contacts well and smear with vaseline. The seals on the Mk1 light clusters tend to leak and cause all kinds of corossion issues.
Awesome thanks I will give that a go tomorrow, shortly leaving for a 400 mile journey this evening so it'll have to do! At least I know a wheel isn't about to fall off or something...

So this morning I went to start my car, and nothing! Turns out my battery is so dead the guy who tested it was surprised it got me home from Cornwall last night! Replaced the battery and replaced the brake light as it was only 75p so I thought 'why not?', all is good!! So even though the bulb appeared to be good (the filament was intact and looked ok) it did require replacement.

Thank you all for your comments. (y)
