I was washing the Panda just now and underneath the rear of the car, next to the exhaust I saw an unplugged connector. No idea what it is for, I'll attach a photo.

Should I be concerned that it isn't connected? IMG_20200220_132230.jpeg

Someone will confirm though It might be there for a tow bar. That corrosion needs sorting PDQ.
It looks like it'll all wire brush off I think.
That'll be a job for the weekend. Wire brush and coat in some old engine oil should suffice, correct?

Just been and had a quick look again. The outer edge, closest to the rear bumper is eaten away s tad, not sure if this would be like that from new, the rest will brush off.

Don't think it's for a towbar, they are either 7 or 13 wires.
Looks like there's 10 or 11 terminals in the plug.

I'd say aftermarket parking sensors.

The rusty bar (on the left) isn't the chassis, it the rear crash bar under the plastic bumper, you'll find a good one on Ebay for less than £40.
They just bolt on and off.

I would say No, engine oil won't stop something that is already rusty, remove flaky with a scraper and wire brush(I use one on a grinder and one on a electric drill) two coats of rust converter treatment(I recommend aquasteel by bayerwood) and then coat with underseal/stonechip spray.
If a job is worth doing, doing it correctly will save you time and money in the future.

Get one on eBay. Grit blasting and zinc metal spray will cost another £20. It's overkill but at that price why bother faffing grinders with paint.

If you want to paint over the zinc use an etch primer.

Have the same connector on my 2006 4x4, its either for the parking sensors that were an option from fiat, or to plug in a vsk (vehicle specific kit) for the towing electrics, fuse box has space for trailer control fuse. Although we make and supply towing equipment at work, in the 5 years I've been doing this I've yet to come across one of these for the panda 169. most people go for a universal kit.
