General Stilo Schumacher, should I???

If they were any cheaper then I would've bought one because the look great! I made my own using silicone hose and chrome piping bought off eBay which I coupled to my old air box then stuck a k&n panel filter in and i have to say it looks pretty good

There are some who say that a cone filter makes no difference but I'm not so sure

If I were bothered about the engine then i would put an upgraded panel filter and pretty pipes like Gadge.

Hi everyone, urgent HELP required,

Currently sat in a car park I'm Truro Cornwall, 380 miles from home with a stilo that refuses to start, it's brought up camshaft position sensor A on the computer when I plugged it in, tried clearing it, and starting, rocking in gear and bumping, still will not fire, tried unplugging the sensor and still the same results, I'm waiting for the second recovery truck now as the first one was too hight for the front bumper, any suggestions to get me going as the recovery lot are just going to drag it home otherwise, and I'm then left with no car in the middle of Cornwall, I would try changing the sensor but there is no parts places around and I have no tools!! I'm pretty screwed it seems!!

Oh no I think the only thing you can do is replace the cam shaft sensor? That way you'll know for sure but as you say no where's open?..... Mind you, nice place to be stranded though?

Hmmmm it was an adventure to say the least, got the car recovered to Newquay and they kept it over night, then the bloody thing fired up first thing, and after that they couldn't get it to play up after that! It got me home, all 9 hours it took me in the pouring rain and floods! Then it wouldn't start after a short drive up the shops this morning!

Question is? I've heard it's a Cambelt off job to change the camshaft sensor, am I wrong does anyone know???

Oh dear? I told you that Stilo ownership would be interesting .... Yes it's a belt of job as it sits behind the cam gears but you won't need to go to the same extreme as doing a cam belt replacement as you'll only need to slip the belt off the cam gears so you won't need to remove all the air con belts and lower covers and pulleys ..... But to be honest if you going to do it you might as well go the extra mile and just replace the belt IMO

Legend has it that fiat did make a few shumi diesels (and I mean a few.... Like 5) but for 99% of the rest its just the 2.4

Interesting is one word to describe it yes! Hmm yeah I don't like the thought of pulling a belt off and not replacing it, and I only have a hand written receipt for when it was changed about 5,000 miles ago! Suppose a water pump might as well be thrown into that as well then.... I was trawling through lots of old posts and it seems the sensor is an issue on the 2.4, but apparently it didn't solve the issue on some people's abarth's even after changing the sensor, so I'm hoping I don't get the same problem, it's so annoying it had driven 600 miles with missing a beat until I park it up for 20 mins and all this started!!

Any recommendations on where is good for cambelts? I can't say my local fiat dealers are any good, had a few bad experiences with them when I had my GP, are they quite easy to do? I have done a couple before but only on old ford cvh engines! Any special tools?

I read somewhere once that they did make a few, but they where not in this country and only left hand drive, there's one on YouTube and that's left hand drive I believe!

Just on my way to pick up the schumy after having its camshaft sensor replaced along with the belt, updated water pump and tentioners etc, fingers crossed all is well again!!

Hi everyone, wondered if I can pick your brains, my schumy has just failed it's MOT on play in the lower ball joints, does anyone know the diameter of the rear bush on the lower arm? There's a choice 12mm or 14mm?!?!? Before I start taking it apart I wondered if anyone already knows so I can get the new part ordered

The parts catalogue doesn't give a date for when the rear bush was changed from 12mm to 14mm. There was also a later arm made of steel instead of cast iron.

I would imagine a that as the Schumacher came later in the production run, it will be 14mm, but if you want to PM me your VIN, I'll check it for you.

Hi Davren, thanks for the information, I couldn't even get my local fiat garage to cough up the answer, he simply told me he doesn't know!! That would be great if you could do that for me, how do you check it if fiat can't? Or won't is more likely the story, ill PM that over as soon as I get in from work, thanks for your help

More likely the dealer couldn't be bothered. They have the same Fiat parts catalogue (ePER) that I have. If there was any doubt which version of a part fits your car, they should have asked for your VIN. Putting the VIN into ePER highlights the exact part for your car.

There's a forum copy of ePER on the blue bar at the top of every page above, but it's an old 2004 copy so won't have your VIN listed.

I was tempted to get a second set of alloys or steel wheels and a set of winter tyres, and seeing as my set on the Schumacher (gp) need a refurb I could get this done over the winter, just want people's thoughts/experiences if they are worth it or not

Think it depends on where you live and whether we have a severe winter. If you're in an area which normally gets snow, it's probably worth it..and if the dire predictions I've read on this winter's weather are to be believed, that could be everywhere!

I'm in rural Essex so think it might be worth it, been offered a set of abarth stilo wheels for £150, can't seem to find a set of steel wheels anywhere

I never have. TBH the Abarth even more the GP Schumacher lends its self very well to winter driving. That big heavy engine over the FWD tyres makes it very sturdy.
