I have just replaced the battery on my 04 Stilo MW 1.9 JTD. I did not lose the radio, but the volume on it is acting funny. Previously, I had the radio volume on 8-10 but, now I have to turn it to 20+ in order to hear it. Anyone have any ideas?

there is a setting in the menu which couples the volume to the car speed to a changable degree - maybe this setting was reset to the safest degree ?
Also check if you did not accidently activate any mute function.....

turn LOUD back on in the settings. it can go off when the battery is off.

also do a speaker test (hidden menu) and check volume adjust is on 4-5

I am having a similar problem. The volume control has stopped working, it turns the stereo on and off but there is no adjusting.

I've read through similar posts and tried the hidden menu (I can't change the 'Max Volume') and tried the tests. The stereo volume does get louder when traffic broadcasts come on, and through the tests I know all the speakers work.

Is there anything else I can do to either reset the stereo factory settings / get the max vol to change / rewire the control button / any other suggestions....?

Guys, have you ever thought that you were using separate volumes for bass & treble? :)

Most of the people just do some custom adjusting and then keep it like that for years and forget they ever changed any settings. Press the Audio button and custom change the equalizer to your desired sound. The radio resets to flat equalizer after taking out the battery.

Stilobunny, it really depends on how your problem appeared. I would personally take out the radio and check the soldering in the volume adjuster. If you need help taking the radio off and getting to the bits, let me know.

Here's a picture of the volume adjuster, see those tiny little feet soldered? One of them makes a bad contact, and boom, no volume adjusting. It's an easy fix, and would be the first thing I would check.

Hi Vladof,

Thats really helpful. I just spoke to my nearest dealership and they said it couldn't be fixed. I'm happy enough with the stereo that's working fine apart from the adjustment. Would rather fix it if I can!

I can get the facia off but have not ventured further into the stereo itself. Would definately be grateful for further instruction and fixing advise. i.e what type of tools would I need for soldering?

Hi,

Of course the dealership will say it will never be fixed because they can't fix them, they just swap them for new ones and that's that.

You just needs your standard soldering gun to do the soldering, nothing too fancy there. Don't take it off, just resolder everything and closely check to see if it's anchored properly to the main board.

The facia can be taken off without going inside the stereo itself, that is correct. It's really not hard at all, but if you need help I will go and remove mine for the purpose of it. I had a lot of pictures of it from when I changed my buttons, but I had a hard disk failure and lost everything. :)

The only advice I feel needs to be given is to be careful when removing the bits to remove the wiring cable connector, it's sensitive but doesn't look like it can be broken easily.

So, I opened up the stereo to find there is no volume adjuster! Its only circuits. However I did see that the panel behind the main facia is cracked just behind the volume adjuster so now I need to find a screwdriver small enough to open it up.

Worst case I will get a new stereo.

I am STILL trying to find out what this " HIDDEN MENU" is.

What do you mean no volume adjuster. How does it work then? You do have the OEM stereo right? The knob that controls the volume come out with the main board and there should be a volume rocker (on/off button included) stuck on it, once you remove the volume plastic button.

Cheers.
Thank's vladof. What a man! Just been out (in between showers) and had a play with the 'base/treble/fader' settings and my sound volume has returned. Brilliant!

Thank's again.

Hey! So after ending up in Halfords to buy a specialist screwdriver (T5, T6 and T8) I got into the facia panel and found only electronics. Behind the volume button was a small black rectangular connector which could be a small transistor, I couldn't get to it as one side was attached. So I fiddled with it for a while then put it all back together seemingly without any resolve. What I then found today was that the volume now gets louder by itself as I change up gear and quieter as I go down again!!

I might have to take it to the electronics department at the University I work for!!

The volume button did come out with the main panel but I did not pull the knob off, if thats what you mean? Apologies I did not take pictures. It is a visteon cd radio stereo that came with the car- any ideas? I understand if not, I'm stumped!!

Hi Stilo Bunny.

I will take out my radio and post pictures later on today or tomorrow, as soon as I have the time.

Please bear with me on this one, I will show you exactly what you need to do.. :)

The volume should go up and down as your speed increases, it's a built in feature that can be disabled if needed.

Hi,

So I'm going to post a mini guide here, just in case someone else ends up reading it and it may help. We all know how to remove the radio so far, but to get to buttons and the volume rocker you need to:

1. Remove inside fascia screws

2. Push on the retaining clips and slide fascia out, careful not to slice the cable going to it. The cable can be released from the connector simply by pulling it hard against the main board of the fascia.

3. Remove all the surface screws. Don't remove the ones in holes as they hold the buttons in place, not the main board. After that, push on the 4 black retaining clips and the board should come out, with the volume rocker.

2.jpg

4. Pull up the plastic button, then remove the 2 screws on the back of the board, then push on the plastic clips to release the light transmitter thingie as well.

5. You are then able to find your way towards the volume rocker. Check at it's base to make sure all the pins are soldered well, and there are no cracks on the board. Even the cracks can be fixed, nothing's impossible. If you are an electronic passionate guy, you know how to fix it.

That's that. Hope this helps you out. :)
