Hi Guys,

Just got an 02 Fial Stilo 1.6 dynamic and like it a lot but for a few problems.

Rear make noises when turning corners (possible subframe problem)

Steering wheel not central when driving straight ahead (maybe alignment or uneaven tyre wear from one side to other) can I get the tyres changes under warranty if this is the case?

Squeak in dash that seems to come and go, most annoying

Going in next week to dealer to get these addressed, hopefully!!

Are these common faults?

Regards

Had my 02 1.6 dynamic 3 weeks and in this last week noticed it drags of to the left slightly on flat surfaces i wonder if this is related to the rear subframe probs ive read in this forum. Maybe thats why your steering wheel is not central lodestone! If it is subframe has any one had it sorted through dealer?

I had a problem with my steering pulling to the left and it proved to be a problem with the geometry (vertical alignment) of the front wheels. The dealer sorted it and Fiat paid 75% of the tyres (they had done 13000 miles). Seems OK now.

Also had a squeking/clunking coming from the rear over rough surfaces and bumpy roads. This turned out to be the parcel shelf!! An extra clip from Fiat fitted by the dealer stopped this too.

Hope this helps.

I had my rear subframe sorted at dealer took about 1 year to get them to agree to do it. Was originally told it was probably a brake caliper, then told there was no noise to be heard, finally took their head technician out who agreed there was a problem after about 50 yards. When they did it it was quite quick and no hassle, my local FIAT dealer seems to be quite good when they agree to do something -- The problem is getting them to agree there is a problem.

As rriggs says though take the parcel shelf and anything else that might rattle or squeek before taking it in to demonstrate the problem.

This sort of irritation is not unique to FIAT many years ago I bought a 14 month old Fo*d Esc*rt which had a squeel from the front --- dealer said wheel bearing but agreed to fix the noise, changed one bearing no difference, changed the other bearing no difference, then rebuilt gearbox no difference, finally noise reached a peak and stopped at the same time the speedo stopped working all they needed to do was relace the speedo cable.

I've got a rattle in my dash board. Only seems to happen when the engines cold though (first thing in the morning) by the time I come to drive home after work its stopped.

Its very annoying cos how do you get a dealer to fix a problem that they cant find! (a question probably asked by a million car owners every day!) Hoping that it wont happen on the one I pick up next week (the dealership have agreed to do a like for like swop due to all the hassle Ive had)

If you have a problem which the dealer can't find (esp cold engine stuff), it's worth leaving the car with them overnight. Even if they can't give you a courtesy car and you have to borrow the missus car or (deep breath!) get the bus, it is often worth it to get it sorted once and for all.

I've got the same creaking noises from my Stilo's rear subframe (1.6 Dynamic 5dr 2002). My local dealer says I have to wait until it has some "play" in it, but I'm sure they'll sort it - if not, I'll sort them out! :p

rriggs - What clip did your dealer fit to stop the parcel shelf rattling??????

Don't know what clip it was yet!! Went to get it fitted and (apparently!) they ordered the clip for the wrong side of the parcel shelf. They have ordered another and I go to get it fitted tomorrow.

I'll let you know exactly what it is they are talking about....
