Hiya.

Ive got my eye on a Stilo Selespeed but wondered what your thoughts were on them.
I'm going looking at the car tmoro, what general things should i look out for, common faults?

I had a Alfa with the selespeed gearbox and it was nothing but trouble - i dont want the same grief if i get the Fiat...

Any help from a complete Fiat beginner would be great!!!

Cheers. :)

Hi. I'm sure if you do a search there'll be loads of good advice on here. But as a long-term owner of a manual 2.4 I'd suggest:

- check the oil is to level. If it's a private sale ask the seller what he tops the oil up with. If you get a blank look, walk away because these engines do use oil. If they've never checked it, then it could be bad news.
- Look at the front tyres for uneven wear as I think they can go out of track quite easily. And check there's some meat on them anyway - hard use can get through the rubber.
- Check the air con comes on with a "click" (compressor kicking in), and the usual check of the electrics.

If you've experience of Selespeed then I'd use your instinct and check it doesn't have the problems you've encountered....

Good luck. Find a good one and they're rewarding motors.

Depending on the milage ask if the cambelts been done, cos your probably looking at £500 minimum to get the cambelt, waterpump and tensioners done if its due. (well worth getting them done at the same time whilst the engines lifted)
