Technical Stilo 1.6 Engine fault

I have a problem the engine light comes on and it states Engine fault when the car is ticking over you can feel it judder and when you first drive off you smell petrol now the light sometimes goes off for a while then comes back on also twice when the car has been ticking over you get white smoke form the exhaust and again you smell petrol... Any ideas?

I m gonna take it to get checked but I need to know what part i require

Funny ive just done the Isle of Wight to the midlands there and back and the light is on but it drives fine...

Faulty ignition coil during idle?

Test them by pulling each one out in turn, the one that makes not difference to the juddering is the faulty one.
