Technical Stilo 1.6 engine fault p1220

Hi.

I have a 2002 fiat stilo 1.6 and today i got the dreaded beep followed by the engine warning light, then the engine had no power, wouldn't rev above 2000rpm. So i limped it home, hooked it up to the fault reader and it came up with p1220, which is Throttle position [signal implausible].

I've done a search but there was nothing that decisive as to what to try and what it could be. I've tried re-learning the throttle but the problem is still there
I would prefer things to try and fix it myself, as i can't afford the bill fiat will come up with...
