I posted last year with this problem, but have had no success. Basically, there is just no power in my Punto. I have a mk1 1.2i 75sx, and I had a go of my mates mk1 60 and his is way quicker accelerating than mine!. The car revs great until about 3000rpm but then it just dies, there is no pull at all. I have changed the engine, all plugs and leads and have had a new cat-back exhaust fitted by Longlife just before christmas. I have taken the car to Fiat and an italian car specialist near me, but neither has figured out what was wrong with it! Can anyone help, and suggestions would be greatl. Thanks.

wow you been to all thr ight peopel and still now answer hmm that is a toughy. does the low power happen in all gears wonce you get to 3000rpm or only in 1st and sometimes in 2nd

heard something about ringgear not sure were that is but think its near clutch anyway im sure i read once that they are sweated on and are only held on by super tight fit and if you put to much tourque in its possible for this to slip resulting in power loss. this can be modified with a couple of spot welds.

this is something i think i have read no idea were thoiugh so i cant say for sure.

just to keep you informed.......the ring gear is near the clutch that is true however is has no direct involvement with drive line, the ring is the toothed ring on the outer edge of the fly wheel and its primary use is for starting the engine. If it where to be spot welded it would un-balance the flywheel resulting in a rough running engine
