General Steering wheel split!

Ho there. Was there any outcome to this. Mines do e exactly the same. 61 reg 25000 miles. Vospers fiat Exeter tell me that my warranty claim has been refused? I certainly ly haven't done this on purpose and car is immaculate as ex fiat company car. Not my first poor experience with them but any help would be great

They replaced it (the airbag unit) straight away after I got in touch with Fiat UK in Slough. I spoke to a lady in the director's office there. Try them -

I am happy for you to use my name to refer to my case. I can't recall the name of the lady I spoke to. I referred them to this thread so you could try that as well. She agreed that this is a fault with the material and clearly wasn't done by me. Especially seeing as the split was dead straight where it would split if the airbag where to deploy.

If talking doesn't work try writing a letter to the Managing Director (I know he won't actually read it but it will get some attention) - Steve Zanlunghi.

Lol you guys be tripping

My car is 60reg 1 owner from new and it has done the same, its the air bag seam, lot thinner material, im gonna leave mine late as possible because it is a new steering wheel job+all programmed in, which something is bound to not work afterwards

It's only a plastic cover, they just pull it out and put a new one. 5 minutes job.

I thought the cover was integrated with the airbag and rather expensive

The cover and airbag are one unit with a sale value of around £430 (at the time mine was replaced). Fiat UK told me they do not come separately and the garage showed me the unit after taking it off. This is why it took a bit of effort to get it sorted. The person responsible for dealing with warranty claims in my area refused it at first before I contacted Fiat UK.

They can be sourced seperatly, but not from Fiat I believe. I've seen them once or twice on eBay for the mk3 Panda for example.

I'm not pastering it about online atm incase things get messy, but all will come out in the wash, sooner rather than later hopfully. Unfortunatly its a tad more sever than a split steering wheel though
