General steamy headlights

my punto sporting mk2(2001) headlights steam up when ive washed my car or it rains, i know this must be distorting the beam, how can i sort this problem, it seems to be common problem from what i hear???

Remove lights.
Drill 4 x 3mm holes in the bottom of the units equally spaced.
Remove the rear covers, dry the lights out, and put 2 silica gel packets in the back of the light units.
When re-fitting apply a small bead of silicone around the rubber seals on the rear covers.

This will minimize any steaming IME
