Don't agree. If like a lot of 500 owners you're driving the car through stop start traffic then it's going to save you fuel, kind of a nobrainer really.Agree there pointless waste of time green ********

Of course and I agree. I don't like ESP, auto lights, auto wipers etc. You can still switch S&S off anywayDepends what you want out of a car. I prefer to make the decisions myself - i.e when to put the wipers on, when to turn the lights on and when to turn the engine on and off. It's actually quite easy to work out. That and the fact that the system is by no means perfected. So, only a nobrainer for some.

the system is useful, and you DO have to choose to use it by taking the car out of gear and releasing the clutch to activate it- quite a different driving style to the one i had previously- which was to sit in gear when stationary generally.
so you are def still 'making the decisions'.
ths system may not be perfect, but i dont believe any stop start is- for instance many other makers systems dont work in temps of less than 5C-
fiats does...and i like not wasting fuel when im not moving..![]()
It's meant to be pretty much instant but not having driven it I couldn't say tbhHow instant is it on start up, say when you are waiting at a busy junction and you have to make a split decision to go for it or wait all day. I just find that todays electronic throttles already have a slight delay and then having to also wait for the engine to restart would just drive me nuts. How realistic are any fuel savings.

however i do tend to always follow the shift indicator, and this coupled with s/s does make me think MUCH more about efficient driving techniques...i average about 47mpg...
it really does take some getting used to, but now if i drive a car without s/s im habitually taking the car out of gear at a stop, then pondering how wasteful it is to have cars just 'ticking over' on idle....
i prefer to concentrate on driving rather than operating the car and worrying about fuel economy but i guess you have taken the bait of the ecomentalist movement
and regarding wasting energy having cars ticking over on idle, what about the energy used to re-start the engine - it isn't free...
not having a personal dig at you, just trying to put things in perspective![]()
Different people like different things I guess.
I'm quite enjoying my drive to work at the moment which is a 20 mile mix of narrow B roads and flowing A roads and I'm enjoying getting 56mpg indicated and not braking unless I need to stopIf I was to get the revs up I'd arrive minutes earlier at most and burn a lot more fuel as there's practicallly nowhere safe to overtake.
I'm going for a trip on the weekend and I'll be surprised if I don't beat Mark's record of 57.2 mpg for a petrol 500.

In what way..............?
Its also commonsense that we not only all play a part in the conservation of fuels but the air we and our children have to breathe.
In what way..............?
For me? It's over 332 miles sofar and the gauge still says I've got 3/8ths of a tank left. It also includes 3 commutes to and from the job I finished on Friday which was about half the distance that my commute this week has been. Now that the weather is getting warmer my economy is really picking up.is this from a a new trip reset for the journey?
the system is a vast improvement on the various systems of old...but you dont say how the system is flawed?
Me? I am not saying it's flawed, but looks like there are plenty who think it is

Rather. But you do have to admit there were quite a few people with problemsI am aware of that thread and to be honest the vast amount of posts there are irrelevent.
