Hi, Have a swift kon-tiki motorhome based on a ducato 2.8JTD (02 plate) So assume it's an x244 model (as it looks like that one rather than the 250). Ever since picking it up from the dealer. whose mechanic simply states that the alternator belt won't go any tighter. There has been a squeal from a belt (assume it's the alternator) which goes away after a minute or two.

It has come back whilst driving and can only assume it's the alternator slipping when the lights or heating is on.

I'm not a dab hand at these things and haven't had to go under the bonnet in many years but would like to try and minimise the cost of servicing if possible and wonder whether indeed (as the mechanic states) that the belt is as tight as possible and that there must be too much of a load from either the starter battery or the leisure battery or both until the amount of load equalises? or should i just either change the belt myself (depending on how easy it is) or get it changed at a dealer?

thanks in advance for any and all help, advice.

Rich

Belt probably too long there's plenty of adjustment in it.

If it has new belt or belts my previous post might be relevant -

"Hi
Your problem seems to very common after the multi-groove auxiliary belts are changed.
I have changed both the belts on our 2.8JTD & ours does exactly the same, I have also experienced this on our Mazda after its A/C belt was changed( the one running the alternator was a normal "V" belt.
It seems from what I can see these multi groove belts (which seem to last a lot longer than V belts) wear themselves into the multi-groove pulleys so that the original belt & pulley wear to match.
Then when a new belt is installed it takes considerable mileage for them to match up to each other hence the squealing on starting the engine, it seems once running for a few seconds or even minutes it disappears."
Cheers

sounds very similar. Let's see if putting some more mileage on it helps the noise settle. I'll continue to monitor and let you all know.

Thanks for your response. It's much appreciated.

I've got a aerosol spray can of belt treatment in the garage, I can have a look at what it is called if it helps.(y)
